Re: Coaches Votes Round 4 v Hawks
Interesting to note that both coaches gave Butler votes and very few votes given to him here by the faithful. I am as guilty as anyone.
Mitchell didn't think any of his players were worthy of a vote.

Re: Coaches Votes Round 4 v Hawks
I looked at the comp wide stats yesterday and Butler is the leading tackler amongst forwards. Ratts must love the pressure he brings. I saw that Long also got a mention for his pressure. Last couple of weeks our pressure on the ball has been excellent.
Also, Sincs has taken another step. He's turned into a gun.

Re: Coaches Votes Round 4 v Hawks
I gave Dan a vote - then again - I gave ten players votes, unusually for me.
Hawthorn were pretty bad; they had many I hadn't seen before. Their ruckman Ned Reeves and full forward Mitch Lewis stood out. Height is everything these days.

Makes the bloke who gave Hill no votes look even more silly.

Re: Coaches Votes Round 4 v Hawks
Butler gets a lot of flak here when he doesn’t kick goals or wastes a few opportunities.
The reality is that players of his size/skill set periodically get frozen out.
What you need from them is a not negotiable work rate in addition to being gifted the odd opportunity or making something out of nothing.
Butler works hard and keeps trying. Am really liking him and Long as forwards
Glad he gets a little vindication this week

Re: Coaches Votes Round 4 v Hawks
That all well and good
But there is no chance his game was as important as Gresham’s though.
Gresham
20 possessions
4 goals
4 clearances
As a forward/mid
Butler
15 Possessions
2 goals
As a forward

Re: Coaches Votes Round 4 v Hawks
I woulda had Crouch in the mix.
Maybe 2 vote.
Gresh higher.
Butler 1 vote.
Geez you could squeeze a few guys in there, really.
Lienert, even Wood?

Re: Coaches Votes Round 4 v Hawks
A couple of other relevant stats
Tackles - Butler 5, Gresham 1
Goal Assists - Butler 3, Gresham 2.
I gave Gresham votes and left Butler out. However the coaches ( both of them ) are telling us - as others in this thread have acknowledged - that the role of a small forward is a tough and important gig , that both with the footy and without , Butler played an influential game and that as a collective we ( I ) didn’t give him enough credit.

Re: Coaches Votes Round 4 v Hawks
I think Reeves probably deserved a vote. But I can understand both coaches feeling that they shouldn't give any votes to the Hawks, who were truly dreadful.

Re: Coaches Votes Round 4 v Hawks
Last week Gresh got coaches votes and Sinclair didn't
That doesn't mean Sinclair didn't deserve votes last week. This week Butler gets more votes than Gresh. That doesn't mean Butler necessarily will score more in the Best and Fairest than Gresham in this particular game.
What people forget sometimes is that the coaches realise that these votes are public, so it would make sense to use the CA voting to try and motivate certain players.
Two weeks in a row in both the Freo win and in the Richmond win, the coaches ignored McKenzie. I'd love to revisit this thread and see how DMac scores in the Trevor Barker medal for Rnd 2 and 3

Re: Coaches Votes Round 4 v Hawks
Butler made the Hawks backs s*** themselves. He was constantly chasing and harrassing and caused a heap of turnover. Gresham plays a completely different game. They were both except.

It’s not too late.
I didn’t give votes to Hill either. That’s three idiots.

By cheated you mean gut ran perfectly to position to score while his opponent couldn't go with him.
