Flexibility at Running Back/Wing/HHF

Post: # 1946422Post B.M »

I find it interesting that we give a role to a guy in pre season and seem to be set in that decision

I understand people train all of pre season in lines to learn structure, system and roles

But this is not NFL where players play 1 position for a career

Coaches have their greatest influence in games, by moving the chess board. The best coaches have the best instinct to know when something isn’t working and how to fix it.

I think flexibility should be in the coaches and players repertoire.

Ratten did it with Sincs at HT vs Collingwood. He trains as a running back all of the preseason. Mids not getting it done, he went in there and nearly changed the game. He did exactly the opposite vs Richmond and went to HB and did the same

Hill moved from defence at HT to HHF
Paton from Wing to HB

If things aren’t working, these changes must be able to be made! And there shouldn’t be a need to wait to HT to make that change!

Pull the trigger on moves as soon as there is a feel of momentum loss

Flexible players
Sinclair - HB, Inside, Wing, HF
Jones - Inside, HB, Wing
Hill - HB, Wing, HHF
Clark - Wing, HB, Inside, HF
Billings - HF, Wing
McKenzie - Wing, HB, Tagger
Gresham - Inside, HF, Small Forward
Wood - Wing, 3rd Forward
Ross - Inside, Wing, Tagger

Those players should have primary roles, but be flexible enough to adapt in game

Makes us harder to coach against
