nope, will never agree or think it is anything but a terrible idea and the death of St Kilda if it moved, just ask the majority of Fitzroy fans if it feels anywhere near the same.

Re: What if the AFL enticed us with............?
That’s really interesting. Seems unfair to other clubs. So only 3 games interstate outside Tassie and Melbourne
At first I looked at that and thought No Way! How can we get essentially 19 home game and also playing at the home of the Grand Final with a guaranteed number each year….then I thought hang on
That’s exactly what Richmond, Collingwood, Hawthorn, and Melbourne are getting at the moment
They’ve all been in a GF or won the thing from nine of the last ten Grand Finals.

Re: What if the AFL enticed us with............?
Meanwhile, back on Earth in COVID-19 reality, the AFL revealed the past two seasons had drained its resources to the tune of around $70 million.
On another planet, otherwise known as Tasmania, the Government wants its own, stand-alone AFL team. There is no desire for a relocated, rebranded club. They already have the "Hobart Roos" for four games and the "Launceston Hawks" for another four. Even the suggestion of playing 6 home games in Hobart and 5 in Launceston demonstrates exactly what has hindered planet Tas for over 200 years - the divide between North and South and the inability to unite for a common cause.
And good luck convincing a club that achieved the highest percentage of membership growth, now heading towards 60,000, that this is good for them.
Did I say I think your proposal is fanciful? No, I didn't. Sorry, it is just rubbish.

What if sunnyernie stopped deliberately posting topics to annoy/troll people?
what if we got De Goey?
what if we moved to tassy
what if we trade Membury
all recent topics started by the same person.

The odore is back amongst us.
The topics are this forum's buttons and they are being pressed. These topics (games), Trade a Saint, Relocation to, Pick up talented bad boy, Spill a Board, to Thomas or not to Thomas, Laud a Lyon are all games that get brought out and played in their own time during a season or even a single thread.
I'm not against discussing them but to have them appear in rapid fire suggests they are made for trouble not solutions.

I recon either have a bit of fun with it, or just don't engage.
Simples.
It's like the fire triangle, at each point there is heat, fuel and oxygen. Remove one element and fire is prevented.

Re: What if the AFL enticed us with............?
Yes..
I agree with this.
Now the tricky bit is that it is playing with fire…because forum rules mean (and not knocking them b/c they are necessary) one should never be personal.
One gets into that game … a hall of mirrors ..by using oblique references and inferences to one another…
But one is definitely joining the party by coming along…with a bottle of this or that.
Ultimately, a temptation better left untouched?
Says me…SG!
I am a model of discipline.
You're quite brilliant Shane, yeah..terrific!

Are you some kind of a troll?
Tasmania want their own team. Apart from Webster (ex Tasmanian) who at our club would want to move down to be based in Tassie? We finally have first class facilities at Moorabbin and you think uprooting everything to move to Tassie is a reasonable idea?

I lived in Tassie for 3 years. Absolutely hated the place and breathed a sigh of relief on the plane as I saw the coast line disappearing down below when I left.Impatient Sainter wrote: ↑Thu 31 Mar 2022 12:33pm Are you some kind of a troll?

Tasmanians regard themselves as Tasmanians first and foremost before reluctantly admitting to be also Australians. The rest of us they regard as smart arse mainlanders. We can f*** off as far as they are concerned.
So have to agree with you. If the players hated Seymour, they would loath Tasmania.

Re: What if the AFL enticed us with............?
Isn't the push for Tasmania to have their own team? It should be their own team 100%, their own name and their own responsibility. Of course the AFL should support them financially and in every way they can, such as they have done with the other new teams. How can Tasmania get maximum local support and feel that it is their very own team with mainland teams strings still attached? ... and that's without even talking about us throwing our own St Kilda culture out the window.

Re: What if the AFL enticed us with............?
I think Tasmania should have two teams, not one.
Team One- Hobart area
Team Two - Spread along the north coast from Launceston , Devenport, Burnie, Quin..whats it name and what ever those grim little port towns are along that coast.
I also think St Kilda needs to be at the Junction Oval.
I won't go into the JO thing here.
Apart from physical safety there are only two things now,
1) Romance, history, heritage, spirit
2) TV rights, Netflix, Fox, Amazon Prime etc.,
Low crowd numbers mean almost nothing.
Low membership base also.
Tassie is a heritage team, they deserve two teams..One because they are Tassie, and two because they have been insulted for so long.
But SG, you say, there is a puny population of inbred miscreants living down there. It is not enough to pay their way.
Well then, GOld Coast has a booming population and is massively subsidized. The 50 million sucked down by them could have paid for four Tassie teams and free jam donoughts for the coaches. Gold Coast is a graveyard of sports franchises too. It doesn't matter who goes..all that matters is how many people watch. They need a narrative and a story...something to latch on to, and boy, do we latch!! We stick like barnacles to the Black Rock pier!
BUUUTTTT....
Again
Caveat...
Girls..and Woman
We want them to play the game...in big numbers...and so Gold Coast might be that place for girls leagues to prosper..because the boys romance is not there...That I do not know..but it is a rather interesting one.
I believe AFL, as the game is known now, will be a niche sport. Few people will play it, but millions will watch. Like cricket in England..The actual base population is not a big deal.

Re: What if the AFL enticed us with............?
Shane mate, it is a pity Albert Park lake is so shallow. If it weren't you and your new-found mate Ernie could hold hands and walk from the NO-GO JO over to the Lake in steel capped boots. If the pair of you were lucky enough to avoid an incoming F1 or Supercar you could then jump in and hold your breath.
It would provide mild relief for those of us that still believe if you have nothing useful to say than it's best left unsaid. You know, the types of things that might be posted on social media and leave you unscathed. In older times if the same topics were pushed in a crowded public bar you would at least cop a blood nose as a caution to refrain from pushing the same, tired old lines.

I said I won't push the JO thing, and it is certainly a sensitive topic. But I still say all the arguments can be overcome and it is ultimately a good idea...maybe not for a generation..and a few blood noses!
Anyway, I think that fights and blood noses between happy members is what trolls like...so let's not feed that..
Well, I said that Tassie, well, I argue that Tasmania should ideally have two teams, but I do not ever imagine that will happen in our life time. If they get one, they'll be lucky, and it might be messy.
PS..I don't get about the forced march in steel capped boots to the Lake Oval, but I sense the intention.
PPS..And I'll add, I don't know know what your mean about 'posting on social media' and 'leaving you unscathed', but if you are referring to me personally, I would consider that to be an attempt to put the spook in me..almost like, but not quite, a threat. THat would be serious stuff for all the forum members, I would guess. Let me know if I have read this the wrong way.
PPs I get it now…all good!!
