Re: Marshall Gawn
Interesting comparison to Rock Hudson. Perhaps a new nickname for Marshall is in order?
Gawn (aka E.T.) is actually one of my favourite non-St.Kilda players. I honestly wish I could say Marshall was better, but it’s a possibly he could turn out to be as good as Gawn a little further down the track.

Curb your enthusiasm - you’re a St.Kilda supporter!!

Re: Marshall Gawn
If he grows another 3 inches
Becomes a better runner
And
Becomes a better player
Then he might be as good as Gawn

Re: Marshall Gawn
Marshall is a first class forward/second ruck, Gawn is an absolute star of the game and probably the best ruck going around at the minute.
Unfortunately, Gawn is a better player by the length of the Flemington straight.

Re: Marshall Gawn
Gawn is miles ahead. He plays like an extra mid, a ruckman, an intercept defender and a forward marking target. He's got a massive tank and he can kick. Surely one of the best players in the game. Miles ahead of Marshall. Gawn is elite. Marshall is still B grade going on A grade.

Re: Marshall vs Gawn
Hope you don't mind Firey, I edited the thread title to save any further heart attacks. I thought the same thing as the other guys when I read "Marshall Gawn". My mind went "Oh noooooooooo".

As a forward - Marshall is pretty average
He’s a good around the ground ruckman

Marshall is labouring under injuries. Blind Freddie can see that.

Re: Marshall vs Gawn
What injuries?
He dominated R1 in the ruck - as he does
When he plays fwd ruck he is nowhere near as effective
He’s a bog average forward

Re: Marshall vs Gawn
Marshall joining the team was like a breath of fresh air to me I thought finally we have a bonafide a grader with years ahead of him.
The guy is a star and handled properly will improve
Gawn is way ahead atm but I reckon Marshall will reduce the gap

Not sure he is a star?
That sort of label is for players with accolades
What has Marshall done?

Re: Marshall vs Gawn
Done enough for me
Beautiful mark and kick wins the tap more often than and gets his own ball …usually out of the ruck. Star and will be a bigger star

Re: Marshall vs Gawn
Gawn and Ryder are genuine ruckmen. Marshall has not got the leap or the size. He's the ideal 2nd ruck, I wish Ryder was RoMa's age and then we'd have the premium ruck combo to challenge Melbourne's duo.

Re: Marshall vs Gawn
How do you reckon Marshall or Ryder plays when they are not in the ruck?
What year was Marshall’s best year?
How important is the ruck contest?
Which of the following Ruckmen had better games
Player A
30 hit outs (8 adv)
8 possessions
4 marks (1 contested)
2 clearances
2 tackles
Player B
15 hit outs (3 adv)
20 possessions
8 marks (2 contested)
6 clearances
3 tackles
Interested to hear what people think
