Funny....he talks about Ratten's belief in him but no mention of Richo. Maybe Richo was too focussed on Billy Longer

Yep, huge quote! Imagine Richo turning Petracca into a dropable tagger. Thank god for Ratten & Steele, there's hope!

Captain Jack - St Kilda to the core now

Who’s to know whether his years as a run-with player hasn’t developed him into the player he is today

He isn’t the best mid in the comp, but he’s the best two way runner

Most Mids in his bracket think defence is the thing that goes around the ground!!!

Insanely good player, well developed

Good point B.M., a bit like who's to know whether his run with roles held him back and he should be a couple more years advanced - he's excelled in all roles he's been challenged with.

Spot on in regards to the best mid, defensively and offensively.

Funny you should bring this up…I mentioned this to Lenny end of last year that Steely reminds me of him (minus the step!).
Lenny said that Jack lacked belief in himself when at the giants and is pleased to see him develop so well.
I rang him when we were looking at recruiting him and he said back then that he would be a slow burn with improvement each year but would become a very good player.
Suffice to say, Jack has exceeded his expectations!

Is he in the same conversation as Lenny yet?

How will he go as outright captain, can he maintain his upwardly trajectory while performing all of his duties as Captain.

A good test ahead.

Lenny was a slow burn too. If he keeps going, Steele will leave the same legacy.

Took him a few years before he became a legend!

But what a legend

However - and recency bias in full swing - Jack Steele was born a Bloody Legend!
[And by Born - I mean when he first pulled on the Tri-Colour - never let his colours be lowered - always has played with passion and the best of himself]

They're pretty decent numbers for a kid in a bottom club.
I remember him being poleaxed by Archer and bouncing straight back up.
I thought this kid is made of tough stuff.
I remember Harvey talking him up when he was still a teenager saying Lenny was going to be a club great.

Jack is currently an A grade gun AFL player, but will need to sustain this level for a few more seasons to compare with Lenny.
Definitely similar players from a competitiveness, leadership & hardness perspective.
