Tom Ledger retired

Post: # 1931262Post WellardSaint »

2010 Draft- pick 59.
Had won the B n F award in the WAFL Colts that season.

8 games with us.
96 games in the WAFL for Claremont.
Retired at 29.
WAFL is a lower level than AFL, so I assumed players could last longer.
Clint Jones left us and played a long time in the WAFL.

I always feel sad when guys only play a few games in the RW &B, and either get cut, or in his case, he asked to be cut.
To play even one senior game is an achievement.

Tom Ledger’s example really frustrated me.
Kid played in the era of the substitute so of his 8 games, 3-4 of them were just like a quarter only.

His games with us were all fairly dece IMO

Kid never really got a chance to develop

I saw him as another Darren Minchington type.
I'm sure he worked hard on the track but for some reason just didn't make an impact.
Maybe tactics and game plan was too different to his VFL team and his instincts weren't therefore correct in seniors?
But a qtr here and there cannot help at all.
Play a qtr of seniors then back to VFL for a bit.
Can't be good

He was a real yap yap and didnt do himself any favours. I had a chat to him at a Sandringham game when he was at the club and all he did was bag the coach and the club for not playing him in the seniors. Not the sought of conversation you would expect a player have with a total stranger.

Not surprised then that the club gave him the arse.

Could find the footy

Bit of a hacker, no defensive side

At 178cm also pretty small for a mid who is not elite
