wow
hmmm
is that ... a how footy is played 'conceptual' change
from the new coach
is the intent behind the play
to move to ... the run 'n gun by the young paradigm
of the coming 'modern footy' vision
bold
brave
whole of squad usage
works with that vision
ballsy

While the link suggests nothing, I have romanticised the thought of Benny playing out his days with the Saints. I've only ever consoled myself that his trade to Hawthorn was solely because he was ineffective at centre bounces, which cost us dearly. That issue has been rectified after two premierships, captaincy and a great career with the Hawks.
Seven more games and his offspring are eligible for both clubs under the father and son rule. Knowing how difficult it is to find followers of his quality I would stand him at stud until he becomes infertile or carks it!

Thanks Chris Pelchen you lisping flog
It’s a great example of why trading good players for picks (outside 10) is a ridiculous notion

I have this radical theory that generally if you have a quality player in or approaching his prime it is wise to keep him on the list.
What did we get from pushing Goddard, McEvoy and Dal Santo out of the club? Hickey, Lee, Dunstan and Acres or something along those lines? We could have opened up cap space by moving on flawed, overpaid players rather than genuine guns.

There is a notion that we got Acres and Dunstan for McEvoy
We actually got
Picks 18, 19 & Savage
Hawks got
McEvoy and Pick 24
So we got and end of first round pick
Got a second round pick but gave up a second round pick
Savage was steak knives

I heard a few shows on Trade Radio and also watched the FoxFooty show last week which airs for 30 minutes each night at 5 PM.
They reckon that McEvoy isn’t someone that is likely to be released, but I’d take him if available definitely
Liam Sheils, Luke Breust, Jaeger O’Meara and Tommy Mitchell should all be considered and the club is derelict in it’s duty if they haven’t explored all options to rookie some of our existing oldies (including Gears) to try and fit one of these guys in

So which is it - we are derelict for not exporing older player options (inc Talia) or we are reckless for becoming a Superannuation Club???Scollop wrote: ↑Mon 11 Oct 2021 9:17am I heard a few shows on Trade Radio and also watched the FoxFooty show last week which airs for 30 minutes each night at 5 PM.

I am sure that the Club has a plan - beyond what we as mere supporters know

Re: Big Boy back? Hawthorn's oldies paddock sale.
They've had how many changes in plans under Finnis? They went early on too many senior players starting perhaps in 2017/2018 and they went hard again the last two years. All of a sudden you can't change tack and go for kids only. That just implies another failed plan. You can't undo the Hannas/Ryder/Rowe/McKernan/Frawley and Brad Hill and Crouch dealsSainter_Dad wrote: ↑Mon 11 Oct 2021 12:25pmSo which is it - we are derelict for not exporing older player options (inc Talia) or we are reckless for becoming a Superannuation Club???Scollop wrote: ↑Mon 11 Oct 2021 9:17am I heard a few shows on Trade Radio and also watched the FoxFooty show last week which airs for 30 minutes each night at 5 PM.

I like what they are doing with a balance of development and recruiting of young talent and an eye on getting us into finals in 2022, so if Talia doesn't have chronic injury concerns, I'm happy for us to get him because obviously we need back up for Wilkie and Dougs
We should also be asking about those 4 Hawks that I specifically mentioned and try and get them in that specific order (i.e Shiels should be first option)
I don't think Hawks want to trade Shiels (or their captain McEvoy) or Bruest because they seem to be great leaders, but let's ask the question and make an offer

Shiels and Breust will both be 31 next season.
O'Meara 28, Mitchell 29.
I'd rather build a mid-field by adding younger players to our existing list than replacing older players on our list - McKernan, Frawley, Carlisle with more older players. I'm hoping the club is not going to import any more superannuants in the last quarter of their careers unless they fill a very specific role and need and are not cruelled by injury - i.e Paddy Ryder.
Build leadership from young players within rather than importing it with guys who are heading for the end of their career.

Re: Big Boy back? Hawthorn's oldies paddock sale.
I agree about buiding leadership from within and I agree that we need to have a firm focus on recruiting the vey best YOUNG talent as a first priority, but ...the club has just signed on Gears for another year haven't they? I think members deserve to follow a team that is competitive on field and the CEO and the board understand these commercial pressures as well as the fact that a non competitive team is bad for sponsors and for the AFL
I think if we didn't have Seb Ross and Gears, Hannas, Ryder, Crouch and Brad Hill, maybe we should be looking for a total rebuild, but there is a good core of senior players under these blokes and we can't just go back down the ladder. It's taken 10 years to play bloody finals again!!
I think we should try and remain competitive while trying to bring in young talent. The home and away rounds are a greulling marathon so if Talia doesn't demand too much salary wise and if he is definitely cleared of his long term injury problems he is a good back up.
