Clubs asking about Ben Long.
CONTRACTED St Kilda hard-nut Ben Long has become the subject of early trade talks with rival clubs making inquiries as to whether he'd be open to a move away from Moorabbin.

Re: Clubs asking about Ben Long.
Clearly they see something
Long has something I feel our side lacks from a few ...toughness
Not sure I’d be willing to part with that tbh
As a defensive forward he puts the fear of god I to opponents
If he gets over kicking yips in front of goal he could be very dangerous
Can’t they just enquire about Ross FFS

He’s BOG average at this stage
Don’t see the attraction
I think people like him because he delivers the odd big bump (sometimes illegally)
I’d prefer it if he got a kick

I wouldn’t trade him for a nothing pick just for the sake of it however if we were after someone and he could be used as part then I would agree.

Re: Clubs asking about Ben Long.
He's done some really good things but they're rare.
More often he attracts the umps' ire.
If he could be more consistent and focused, he'd be valuable

Re: Clubs asking about Ben Long.
Essendon would be looking to play Hind as a running half back and Long as a pressure forward.
Who would have thought you could slot those 2 ex VFL players into a finals window? Is it there natural abilities or their ability to play roles that interests them?
Sounds like they'd back in Longy for best 22 as part of the deal.
Do players become better when you challenge their natural game with more specific rounded on field roles.
Meanwhile, Sinclair, Wilkie and Hill make our top 5 B&F, Ross and Webster make top 10 and Battle, Clark, Coffield Higgins and Lonie fight for best 22 selection with Paton and Geary on the sidelines. Where would Hind have come? I'd have had no hard feeling's in Hind taking a better offer from Essendon.
Lonie is a FA and I'd lock away Higgins and Clark, but I'd be open to trading Battle, Coffield or Long.
Wilkie, Highmore, Sharman, Long, Hind, Marshall and Paton are proof we can spot talent of course a few havent made it and a couple have gone on to other clubs but you can't fit them all in, particularly when you are cutting dead weight and not hitting the first round of the draft all at the same time.
Injuries have forced out hand, career determining injuries on a couple and persistent injuries with others.

Re: Clubs asking about Ben Long.
if anyone silly enough to offer 2nd rounder ill pay for the uber.
probably will stay as says happy to and likely Lonie gone - and he is better than Lonie.
As some mention people get excited about his physical nature but too many skill errors for me. Defensive forward only please never put him at half back again.

Re: Clubs asking about Ben Long.
We need draft picks to cash in to get our two very promising NGA’s so I would definitely look to trade Long.

How do you know our academy picks are as good as Long
And if they don’t attract a bid inside 20 we get first look at them anyway

Love both him and Battle to stay. Hate to lose either of them
Don't care about Lonie, Kent, Hunter of Dunstan.

Re: Clubs asking about Ben Long.
They are different, in the same draft range as what Long was finally picked and are standing out in their draft year. That's a gamble you would take and you can keep Lonie, if he chooses, as consolation prize or try Paton or Geary in a fwd defensive role, if they recover in due time.

Re: Clubs asking about Ben Long.
It would probably be in the interest of both parties if Ben was to leave .
We might get a good replacement for him .
He might have a longer career .
His Attacking nature leads to him getting reported . 9 times out of 10 he gets multiple weeks . Often incidences that Ben gets 2 or 3 weeks for , other players on other teams do the same and don't even get cited .
If we could Trade him to a favoured club like Shitknee it may be a good outcome for both .

Not many players at that level ‘look over their shoulder’

Re: Clubs asking about Ben Long.
Absolutely agree. Long and Battle have something different and just seem to be on the cusp of a breakout season. Look at Sincs. Fluffed around for years. Got fit and focused and made the change.
Kent can't do anything well, Lonie to small, Hunter and Dunstan just lack skill.

Re: Clubs asking about Ben Long.
There is something different about Battle and along
Neither can get a kick!!!
Ratten preferred Kent
There is no such thing as too small, if you’re good enough.
On Sincs
Always been a top 5 runner at the club
His breakout year was actually in 2018 as a winger
It was a position change that saw him elevate this season

Re: Clubs asking about Ben Long.
I just don't see any future in playing Kent and Lonie is not physical enough because of his size. I think he has the right attitude, but gets brushed aside easily. At least we agree on Hunter and Dunstan.B.M wrote: ↑Mon 27 Sep 2021 7:59pm There is something different about Battle and along

Re: Clubs asking about Ben Long.
The knock on Lonie is not his pressure (he rated very high in that space)
It’s his conversion- he just hasn’t taken his chances
75g 90b in 80 odd games - that’s 45% which is not good enough

Re: Clubs asking about Ben Long.
I don't rate Long all that highly and don't think he is going to get much better. If you have a bloke in the best 25-30 range you can afford to trade him and invest in the future.
Marcus Windhager looks particularly good. If another club selects him in the 20 - 30 range we can't get him with our current draft selections. We need extra draft selections hence I would trade Long to get them.
