Was reasonably confident as we match up pretty well with the Lions always a chance when the opposition hasn’t gotten a good lead

Re: And That's Why We Torture Ourselves!!!!
We really matched them physically too, probably even took it to the next level , and early in the game it seemed like it caught Brisbane off guard. They also probably expected we wouldn't maintain it for 4 quarters, that alone caught the WHOLE footy world off guard.
Clearly it was a theme, DMac and Kent probably led the way too and really made us look battle hardened.
Good coaching.

First time Steele, 32 possessions, Crouch, 23 possessions, Jones, 26 possessions Dunstan 29 possessions, Ross, 24 possessions, Billings, 24 possessions and Byrnes with 15 possessions have all played in the mid field together in the same team
Throw in Hill with his 25 possessions and there are not many matches you are going to lose.
Didn't hurt to have Webster and Highmore starring in the backline either.
Thought we were a slight chance with our mids and two rucks all playing.

Serious man crush on Highmore. Jesus wept - he’s brave, a good mark and an excellent kick. For all he crap on here about his kicking early in the season - a lot of posters overlooked that Kicking and Intercept marking were his elite attributes. Just took him time to adjust to the level.
With Webster absolutely killing it … who goes out for Paton? Serious question …

Re: And That's Why We Torture Ourselves!!!!
Said after last week's fourth quarter that our fadeouts were all too to do with negative mindset and conservative ball movement. So glad we kept taking the game on in that last quarter when the games was still in the balance. Couple that with our effort, pressure and physical aggressive, we can beat anyone.
Just gotta keep rolling. Finals or not, still so much to get out of this season.

I'm just blown away by last night, two players that just have come from nowhere to look more comfortable than 150 gamers, Highmore and Byrnes.Saintmatt wrote: ↑Sun 11 Jul 2021 12:01pm Serious man crush on Highmore. It's like the bonus of all bonuses for a list that was looking quite sad only a month ago.
Hey and what about that new bloke Webster. There's your definition of bonus right there.
And I was starting to have grave concerns about a bloke called King. That 7 minute patch for 3 goals is what we've been waiting for, and he upped the physicality.

Re: And That's Why We Torture Ourselves!!!!
patton is best 22. but now he'll have to earn his spot. likewise clark and gresham. all in our best. On current form Highmore will be keeping Coffield out as well.
The positives of injuries - without them Byrnes, Webster, Highmore and Dunstan would be at sandy and we'd not have seen this. Long would also have disappeared as well after failing at hb. Only current change you'd argue on this effort is Higgins in for Butler. although Kent is an obvious swap but i'd like him to get a chance like the others. If Hanna's gets fit enough to play Byrnes will be very unlucky.

Webster is turning it on now.
Confidence in his kicking has returned.
We now have several players that are executing those difficult kicks back into the corridor.
With Wilkie, Sinclair, Hill counterpunching , Webster is slotting those 40 M precision kicks to set up attacks from back half.
It will be an impressive interchange bench when we are full strength

Speaking of the bench
Had the chance to see Kent up close on the outer wing in last year's finals match agent the Dogs last year.
What he brings to the game is a body that hits packs very hard. You can feel the body smacks from the sidelines.
I understand his form in the twos has not been stellar but clearly brought in for his physical presence. In line with matching what the lions did to the cats a few weeks earlier when they out physicaled (sp) the bigger Geelong players two weeks earlier.

Steele and Highmore are a couple of clean cut, clean living Canberra boys and don't you love them.Saintmatt wrote: ↑Sun 11 Jul 2021 12:01pm Serious man crush on Highmore. Re: And That's Why We Torture Ourselves!!!!
One of those kicks from Webster last night from the defensive goal line that hit Steele on the chest near Centre Half back was sublime. Webster also was critical in holding their most dangerous forward.Banger9798 wrote: ↑Sun 11 Jul 2021 1:48pm Webster is turning it on now.

If Charlie Cameron gets a few early goals it usually lifts their whole squad. I thought Jimmy was the equal of most defenders on the night…except maybe Thomas
It bores more to tears when people criticise players coming back from injury or criticise one or two errors in a game. Like most players he just needed to string a few games together to get back into some form. Loving Jimmy’s contribution this year.

I heard Paddy Ryder do an interview on ABC radio last night and he spoke of the ‘standards’ that the players want to live by. He spoke of the ‘professionalism’ at the club and that it has helped with actually playing better footy.
I interpret that to mean you look after your mind and body so that you can perform at your best. It’s no good trying to be a professional athlete if you’re staying up late on the XBox or the Playstation or getting on the beers (or whatever else the young’ens are into)
