This is a great get. Our ability to get deals done is fast becoming the best in the comp. No nonsense. No posturing. We just get it done.
Clubs hasn't been run this well in a long, long time. We should all be up and about.
Go Saints!

Fantastic. Another who can kick goals and go through the midfield. Gotta hand it to Lethlean and Ratten and the rest of our club

He is a beauty.
If you get the chance, check out his highlights reel.
Yes, I know, highlights tell you nothing but there is a goal that he kicks, that has to be seen to be believed.
He is Jack Lonie on steroids. Nah, he's Jack Higgins.
Predicting he will become a St Kilda cult figure. Personality to go with the skill set.

I watched his highlights reel and we are very lucky to get a guy that never misses a goal. What a steal!damienc wrote: ↑Thu 12 Nov 2020 4:36pm He is a beauty.

Re: Jack Higgins deal done. No really .. like, really done!
Considering "Jumping Jack" was drafted at Pick 17 in 2017, the price now paid by St Kilda for an established player whose best is yet to come is very fair, a drop in 4 spots from 17 to 21 in this year's FRDP and to 4th round from 2nd in 2021 is not a big price.
As a Saints supporter he will certainly play with his heart on his sleeves!

From 2017 draft we have:
Coffield(6)
Clark (7)
Higgins (17)
Clavarino (35)
Paton (46)
On that basis alone, I'm backing in big Oscar to make it.

So why didn't he make the Richmond GF side?

2017 will be looked back on very fondly in the years to come. It was the year the club really turned the corner. Coff and Clark are our Buddy/Roughead equivalent. Paton is a lock and could end up the leagues premier small lockdown defender and now the xfactor of Higgins. I think it was Dermie I heard say once "if a club gets two long term players out of a draft, they've done very well". We now have 4 from 17 draft and 3 from the previous year. Long, Battle, RoMo (still can't believe we got him and Wilkie as rookies)
Very good work from all involved.

Because Shai Bolton returned forward when Prestia came back
Because Daniel’s surname is Rioli
And because Castagna has photos of Hardwick with a donkey

Dan Butler wasn't getting many games for Richmond, either. And I'm pretty sure that turned out all right.

Also traded in Steele along with drafting Roma & co, and the same year did the deal with Hawks to enable us to draft Clark in 2017. Good work indeed, perhaps Trout & team weren't as bad as some forumites make out.stkfc1 wrote: ↑Thu 12 Nov 2020 9:26pm2017 will be looked back on very fondly in the years to come. Jake Aarts a 2019 rookie in 2020 was preferred ahead of Higgins as well.
With Bolton, Rioli, Castagna and Aarts ahead of him Higgins did a Butler and asked for a change of employer.

Are you related to Elshaug? Why was he the first to be moved on by Lethers? There are two ways to add talent to a club with two options of what to do with the draft picks the AFL allocates you.takeaway wrote: ↑Sat 14 Nov 2020 7:27amAlso traded in Steele along with drafting Roma & co, and the same year did the deal with Hawks to enable us to draft Clark in 2017. Very good work from all involved.
You can use the draft pick directly to recruit talent.
OR you can use the draft pick to trade in talent
You can also use players to trade in talent.
A club needs to have both - 1. people who can look at the available talent at a draft and use the picks wisely - I like to call them recruiters.
2. people who can look at players already in the AFL and trade players and picks wisely - I like to call them traders.
Traders have a distinct advantage over recruiters, they get to see the proven capabilities of players in AFL games whereas recruiters have to extrapolate from under 18 form to perdict AFL capabilities.
Clubs near to bottom of the ladder are rewarded with earlier draft picks that should make recruiters their life easier.
Clubs near the top of the ladder are punished with late draft picks making better than average drafting near impossible.
Adelaide has pick 1, how could they possibly not get a better recruit than St Kilda now at pick 21 - they are both first round draft picks.
Before the effect of free agency compensation the bottom team gets 4,647 points whereas the top team gets 1,726.
When free agency compensation, father-son and academy picks are include it gets much worse for the top team.
How can the bottom team possibly do worse.
They could be grossly incompetent, arrogant and full of hubris, invite Emma Quayle to observe their deliberations and then pick Paddy McCartin with pick 1 and Hugh Goddard with pick 21 then Daniel McKenzie with pick 22.
That despite knowing that the draft had little real talent.
Finding excuses to reject the best talent in Petracca.
Rejecting an offer to split pick 1 for pick 4 and 7 from GWS (an improvement of 22.6% on points) (those after Melbourne got pick 3 for free agency compensation).
Do that and Emma Quayle would go to GWS for her story, no write up on the St Kilda recruiters deliberations.
They instead took a type 1 diabetic, a serious red flag for any draft position, ridiculous for pick 1.
The recruiters got their way.
Instead traders would have split pick 1 into 4 and 7 and traded in 2 proven AFL elite players.
St Kilda recruiters for the 2014 draft were criminally incompetent.
Trout had the brains of a fish.
Since 2016 the traders have gradually taken control at St Kilda.
By 2019 clearly in the ascendency.
Long may they reign.

Re: Jack Higgins deal done. No really .. like, really done!
I am pumped about Higgins and its not due to his awesome surname. Back when we drafted Hunter and Coffield I said in this site I would have preferred to get Higgins over Coffield. Not saying that I thought Coffield wouldn't be good, although he is better than I thought he would be at this stage of his career, I didn't think we needed yet another HBF when we had about 10 of them back then. HIggins can actually kick goals which we need a small forward to do. Lonie is now under a lot of pressure to preform

Rumours were circulating for months about another Tiger defecting to Moorabbin. Maybe it was Higgins all along. Perhaps the Tiges already knew.
