Saddest day of the year
For 54 years now we have watched teams and their supporters celebrating achieving the pinnacle of our game.
But it's never us.
No fond Grand Final memories.
Just despair and wondering if we will ever ever EVER see the day.

They don't freeze the whole body, just the head.
No fun if just my head is plonked ontop of some machine, can't hold a beer, can't hold a hot dog

I’ll watch the game cos I have to
But once it’s over that’s it , can’t watch the presentation
On to trade, etc.

There's another one.
Another winner.
But as usual it's not us.

Re: Saddest day of the year
Who wants to win the covid/asterisk cup anyway? No celebrating in the streets or with mates (in Melbourne anyway).
As ex-president Peter Summers said:
“If we are going to be a contender, we may as well plan to win the bloody thing.”
St Kilda - At least we have a Crest!

Re: Saddest day of the year
What happened to Geelong at half time, they were crap after the main break, not that i really care.
The Saints are under review, will it make any difference to the underachievers ?

Half time was extended this year. They have a history of losing after a long break

The good news is that we look as likely as anyone else to knock the smug Tigers off their pedestal. That should become the club’s unofficial mission.

Re: Saddest day of the year
It was obviously shocking to lose 1997, 2009 and 2010 but the worst feeling was watching Footscray winning in 2016. Our 2009 team would have smashed them. Our 2010 team would have beaten them and probably our 1997 team would have beaten them as well. Yet they have their second flag and we are still stranded on just one.Enrico_Misso wrote: ↑Sat 24 Oct 2020 6:01pm For 54 years now we have watched teams and their supporters celebrating achieving the pinnacle of our game.

Re: Saddest day of the year
I hear what you're saying. For years now I've never watched the Grand Final ceremony and celebrations. I explain it this way ... it's like you're a bachelor. You desperately want a wife and you keep on watching wedding ceremoies. You're happy for the couple ( 2 teams in grand final) but you prefer not to watch the events and ceremony ... because after all you desperately want a wife (premiership).
I switched of Tigers v Cats game with 10 mins to go.

Re: Saddest day of the year
It sounds corny..but there's always next year
I just wonder how we would have gone with Paddy, Carlise and Gresh available...but we'll never know. It pays to have your strongest team, or close to, available in all finals.
Hopefully Ratts will continue to build a strong TEAM- it's coming along slowly but surely, and over summer he will probably look at where he can improve as a coach too.
We made it to the finals in a tough season, so we should be able to build from there.
I watched only the last half of the last quarter last night and found it all very boring.....

Re: Saddest day of the year
I’m with EM on this.
I took it badly last year. This year I turned it off as soon as the result looked beyond doubt. I feel much better not watching the celebrations.

I admit to one pang during last night,
One twist of the knife
At the beginning of the last
Commentators said
Only one team, has ever come back
From a 3/4 time deficit and won it..
In the last 35 years..
..in 2009.
