Scoring this year

Post: # 1854291Post Sainter_Dad »

I have considered less points to be better than more if the teams are even and I have Increased Essendon and Melbourne by their average for the fact that they have only played 6 times, however:
TeamGoalsBehinds
St Kilda7539
Geelong7541
Port Adelaide7462
Brisbane7273
Carlton7147
Gold Coast7043
Greater Western Sydney6838
Essendon6441
Melbourne6442
Western Bulldogs6442
Richmond6346
Collingwood6245
West Coast6045
Fremantle5732
Hawthorn5735
Sydney5549
North Melbourne5050
Adelaide4429
We are actually equal top with the most goals this season - long may it continue.

It would be interesting if it was broken down into first and second halves of games, I’d say we might then be at opposite ends of that ladder!

Seems the players are kicking more accurately from set shots.
But many more shots from right in front or running through the goals.
65% accuracy sure helps

We are the first quarter Kings and third quarter Queens!

What will happen if Brisbane and Port kick straight?

Wow! Not only are we the equal best scorers but we are the most accurate team in the competition. Talk about a turnaround. We're 11th for being scored against and obviously that's an area of our game that we need to tidy up.

In a shorter season, with shorter quarters, from a team that hasn't played together much and makes more of its I50 entries than everyone bar the most experienced midfield in the comp. I'm not too concerned. Teething pains.
What happens when we learn to shut down on the press.
Collingwood, Port, WC and Geelong are the only teams we should fear.
Brisbane will want a shootout I reckon we can shut them down and score from rebounds.

We're also the second most accurate team, behind GWS, and have generated the fourth most shots at goal. So, we're doing pretty well in attack.

I was curious what the outright miss situation looked like, so I spent some time digging around the official site to see what the goalkicking looked like with outright misses included. Here's what I got:

Geelong - 75.41.31 (11 rushed). 147 shots, 51% accuracy.
St Kilda - 75.39.29 (7 rushed). 143 shots, 52.4% accuracy
Port Adelaide - 74.62.31 (14 rushed) 167 shots 44.3% accuracy
Brisbane - 72.73.25 (14 rushed) 170 shots 42.4% accuracy
Carlton - 71.47.24 (11 rushed) 142 shots 50% accuracy
Gold Coast - 70.43.24 (9 rushed) 137 shots, 51.1% accuracy
GWS - 68.38.16 (15 rushed) 122 shots, 55.7% accuracy
Essendon - 55.35.20 (9 rushed) 110 shots, 50% accuracy
Melbourne - 55.36.16 (6 rushed) 107 shots, 51.4% accuracy
Western Bulldogs 64.42.29 (12 rushed) 135 shots, 47.4% accuracy
Richmond 63.46.25 (13 rushed) 134 shots 47% accuracy
Collingwood 62.45.22 (14 rushed) 129 shots 48.4% accuracy
West Coast 60.45.28 (10 rushed) 133 shots 45.1% accuracy
Fremantle 57.32.25 (9 rushed) 114 shots, 50% accuracy
Hawthorn 57.35.29 (13 rushed) 121 shots, 47.1% accuracy
Sydney 55.49.15 (7 rushed) 119 shots, 46.2% accuracy
North Melbourne 50.50.19 (14 rushed) 119 shots, 42% accuracy
Adelaide 44.29.18 (11 rushed) 91 shots, 48.4% accuracy

I was not encouraged to see that Port are second behind Brisbane and have a 20 shot gap between themselves and Geelong, who are in third. At least they've been inaccurate, so far.

I also had a look at our goalkickers to see who had been missing the lot. I don't think it will surprise many that Lonie is the worst culprit. 5 goals from 16 shots is pretty bad:

Butler - 13.6.2
Membrey - 10.4.3
King - 10.5.1
Billings - 7.1.0
Kent - 6.3.2
Lonie - 5.4.7
Marshall - 4.1.0
Jones - 3.4.2
Gresham - 3.6.3
Steele - 3.1.0
Battle - 2.2.2
Marsh - 2.1.1
Geary 2.0.2
Howard - 1.0.0
Hind - 1.0.0
Hill - 1.0.1
Hannebery - 1.1.0
Ryder - 1.0.0
Dunstan - 0.0.2
Ross - 0.0.1
_____________

Total 75.39.29

We're pretty fun to watch when we're flying. We sure do leak some goals, though. All the teams that concede more goals than us have more losses than wins and are outside the eight. So, I'm a bit worried about this weekend, but encouraged by the direction of the team.

Yeah nah pleasing positive

Yes, quantifies what we all knew - Lonie and Gresh miss too many.

Yeah geez, if Brisbane and Port tidy up a little they'll steam ahead even more. Shots galore for them.
