5.11 in the first half after being on top of the ladder for 3 months, the coach just can't get it done when it counts. Game plan must be flawed. Will never win a flag.
How much like the GT days is it though. Love the way they play. Crazy old school attacking game with out the stodgy Roos crap defensive grind.

Well so far Hinkley is tracking at 2 years and 2 Pre-lims.
So he gets the benefit of the doubt .
Hes done better than 07,08 (Lyons first two years) if thats the comparison we are making here.

They didn't make the prelim last year…
At any rate, he seems to be a great coach, but if people are going to blame the coach for missed shots on goal then let's be consistent (in absurdity).

Great coaches don't lose prelims.
Holder of unacceptable views and other thought crimes.

The Hawks were crap in the 1st term then shut up shop when they got to 29 points up in the last. Today was more about the scratchy Hawks saved by Roughie and Chris Langford's son than Port.

Gray was immense, then the unsited Wingard almost pulled them over the line. another 2 mins and they were in. You have to admire everything that the Port Adelaide. F.C has done in the past 18 months, they have reminded everyone what a football club should be, leading the way in passion and excitement

As opposed to a Lyon coached Freo?
Wasn't really in refernece to Lyon even though it's in his thread. Lyon has his place in the league, he will always put a side with decent talent in the top half of the ladder, not exciting to watch week in week out,but either are we, or many other sides in the modern era. Was more just a statement of respect for what port and there fans have done in the last 18 months, I envy them. There supporter base is loud and proud, like VFL fans were 20/30 years ago. It seems they have captured the magic of a supporter base of yesteryear, and they play a great brand of footy to go with it. We,and many other Vic clubs seem light years away from replicating this

I loved Port's fans passion today. Holding scarves above their heads they looked and sounded like English soccer fans.
Enjoyable game to be at as a neutral, and luckily the Hawks won as they are better equipped to challenge the Swines.

What, you mean you don't like those "make a noise" announcements at home games?
Hopefully whatever imbecile thought that brainwave up is not there next year!

Agreed it was trerrible
Back to Hinkley, he cost Port a shot at a flag today, because after all we have been told on here it is the coaches fault when their players miss goals and score behinds.
Players are beyond reproach, always the coaches fault.

That's why coaches get sacked and not players or club staff, it's always been that way..
The Saints are under review, will it make any difference to the underachievers ?

He's won 2 finals, and only ever made a prelim. Nothing more.
He's one bad season away from being a has been.
Seriously if that's how it is rated I need a drink.
The funny thing is he's right. Clubs are run by corporate morons that don't understand footy. If he gets serious injuries for two years and miss finals the club will stuff his crap in a box and kick him out the door. Being a senior AFL coach is for a very rare breed of human. People would look back at him as a dud.
Sando got into a prelim, lost his two gun key forwards, suffered under penalties that the board caused then got the arse because he wasn't performing.

So from what you said how is he right? You are giving reasons why he might be sacked but you aren't giving reasons why he appears nothing more than a good coach. Coaches can be overated but you don't suddenly turn around a side that was going backwards if you are only a good coach so why is he only a good coach Gringo?
Coaches are close to irrelevant in the scheme of things. It's not AFL coach vs a pork chop .. it's AFL coach vs AFL coach.
If you want to be a successful team you need to get other more important areas right - the number one of course is to recruit/trade for the best available young talent and then have the resources available to develop them.
Geelong has had sustained success - they've recruited well and have managed to defy gravity and stay up there. It's much more to do with their recruiters, trainers etc.. - very little to do with whoever happens to be coaching them. If coaches and recruiters have a short term outlook and go after recycled/reject players, then don't expect sustained success.
