I'm one of those flowering Labor Supporters you refer to, and I'd be just as condemning of him if he said he had voted Labor, instead of the pond scum he did vote for.

He is a footballer, nothing more, nothing less. He gets paid an obscene amount of money for being able to catch and kick a ball better than most. Who he votes for is totally irrelevant. I would expect his opinion to have no more weight in the discussion than yours or mine.
And it doesn't, but obviously it has generated a hell of alot more interest on here then your vote has.

He's allowed to say what he wants, just like the Age today has random people interviewed for who they voted for.

And condolences on your loss.
He is using his status as a footballer to promote the Pond Scum Party.

Not a random person.

We all lost in this election. Whoever becomes the PM will have to abide by the wishes of a handfull of disaffected rabble. In a year we will be doing it all over again.

The only thing he endorsed was an honest answer to a question posed to him. If there are those who choose to vote Liberal in a year or 3 years time then that's their choice...the shearing sheds are out the back

as an australian over the age of 18 he is expected to make a decision about who he votes for
and like every other person who does or does not get paid he is eligible to express his opinion by casting his vote and when asked saying why.....
just because his job is being a footballer does not exclude him from the right to
a: make a decision and
B; say why if he can and is willing..
How many of us are given time on national tv to explain who we voted for and why?

As a political genius goes, Roo plays good football.
would you like time to?
I'm sure if you stand near a polling booth at which a party leader votes you could find a camera to tell,

there are an equal number of us who would not be happy too
I'd certainly prefer my club leader to Know why he is voting one way or the other than to be ' blowing' the whole event off.

just because his decision was not the same as yours you are saying his opinion is not valid-- seems to be the way on here regularly

life on this planet is too short for nicker knotting -- what ever your vote was or wasn't then we will all live by the results, and in four years- or less if it's ahung parliament then we all will have the freedom to choose again-- will you remember that Nick said he voted one way or the other
or will you still go with what is right for you...

just as making the decision to turn right or left or wear green undies does not affect how tomorrow will work out.. or which friend or family will still be here to share with us.

Can anyone tell me who Nick Maxwell voted for? Or Sam Mitchell? Or Brad Johnson? Or Cameron Ling?

Brett Kirk? Chris Judd? Matthew Pavlich?

What about Jonathan Brown? Brent Harvey? Chris Newman?

Or the rest of them?

There's a good reason we don't know. Smart footballers don't show their political colours.

End of story.

I'm sure if some were asked on television, some would tell you, some wouldn't. Still can't understand why this is such a big deal for some. I really can't understand how it makes someone a smarter footballer for not showing their political colours. Very bizarre...I guess no club would like Roo on their list because he dares to answer a question honestly, amazing logic & over reaction to a simple honest answer.

FWIW I would rather Roo as Captain of my club than any of those who we don't know what parties they voted for, not because of who he voted for but simply because he is the best player amongst them.

Joey didn't ask Roo who he voted for. He asked Roo if he was interested in a career in politics.

Aaron Sandilands was asked a similar question recently and answered diplomatically, so that viewers had no idea who who supported.

Roo's response was potentially divisive and unnecessary. Rather like snarling into the ear of a fallen opponent ( ... I write, knowing full well that some keyboard Napoleons out there will soon be leaping to his defence on that score, too ... the same heroes who'd be the first to register outrage if an opposition captain did it to one of our players).

All in all, a disappointing weekend from the Big German. Apart from his terrific form.

The first thing you would read in the Captain's handbook is don't discuss politics or religion, otherwise this is what happens.
