Mitch Clark last year.
And I think Melbourne have plenty of cash to splash in free trade as well as room in the cap

He could probably earn double there, that would be the only draw-card.

The Age says that's not likely:

Apparently GWS can take Tippett with their PSD pick so it's not a simple path to GCS as previously suggested.

oh so that 'not take another player from the same club' was only for last year

thanks for clearing that up

could still do it tho
surely gws arent going to pay near on a million a year for 3 (or more)

big risk tho by GCS
use the pick
then the caddy dealings and stuff come into it
which prob wont suit us i guess seeing as we were sniffing about there

Luke Holmesby ‏@AFL_Luke
Saints recruiters took Sam Mayes aside for a chat at the #aflcombine Speedy mid-sized forward from SA, likely first-rounder.

Wow he looks like a clean player, the pelch does love his silky skilled players so a good chance. He also looks like he's drifted out slightly on what his potential was -double tempting to pelchen you would think.

it's a good draft- there is some real quality all through the first and deep into the second round. a couple will be bargains this year.

Bit of a worry that his form has been average this year - could it be that he is hoping he drifts out to Adelaide's first pick???

All Night Appetite

Byrnes now a Demon, Chaplin officially a Tiger. Raph Clarke to leave the Saints for either GWS or Carlton it seems, Lions a chance for Moloney. Dawes and Caddy still floating around

Gotta love Raph. Fairly sure if he leaves we get a 3rd rounder for him as this is the bottom tier of compensation. In no way is he worth a third-rounder. So that's a definite win!

Unless I have it wrong..

Would Raph go via draft or free agent

Surely it would be as a free agent. A club would want to grab him if it meant no commitment to draft picks and that would be a great scenario for us.

Brett Anderson‏@BrettAndersonIF
Raph Clarke set to leave St Kilda via #FreeAgency. Both GWS & Carlton showing interest. Great fella who just needs a clear run at it.

Teams are compensated for the net worth of all their FA signings and losses, not each individual deal. Therefore it would be the net worth of raph and Goddard, meaning it probably wouldn't change our compensation.

he's worth more than a third rounder for sure he's still a very good player despite the lack of respect he's got over the years. He will surprise a few at another club where bias doesn't cloud the vision.

Is that right? How is that even fair? What if we lost 2 Goddard types - you'd get just one first round pick after your first allocated pick?

So do you mean we would still get the 1 pick but it would be improved by the loss of another player?

With Raph going, following Goddard, it seems suddenly that our once bountiful running half back flankers are not so plentiful anymore. Definitely enough, but a significant hit nonetheless.
