It is a nasty place to be with the axe above your head knowing that if it falls on you, your AFL career is over and you have to go find a real job.
Who are we going to delist?

ST KILDA ruckman Jason Holmes will be on the club’s senior list next year after committing to a one-year deal.

Has the club actually released anything officially ?
A bit like the article stating that Lee has signed an extension, nothing officially released by the club.
No idea if the articles are correct or not.

Re: Who are we going to delist?
We have delisted 2 senior list players in Delaney and Curren. = -2longtimesaint wrote:At present we need to delist 4 senior players to accommodate the three players we have traded in and three picks in the national draft. The three picks includes the one used to upgrade Holmes so if we want three picks (23,36,61) and Holmes we need to delist 5 players. -I think they will only use two picks plus Holmes.bakes wrote:So now that the trade period is finished, how many on our list do we need to delist?
We have picks 23, 36, 61 and 86 in the upcoming Draft.
I think somebody was saying we'll use pick 86 to upgrade Holmes onto the senior list?
Does that leave us with picks 23, 36, 61?
Holmes to be upgraded = -1
3 players in = +2
If we take 3 picks, then as you say that is +5 = 5 to delist.
Uncontracted:
Tom Lee
Brodie Murdoch
Eli Templeton
Cameron Shenton
Sam Fisher
So they all would have to go. Unless we pay out Holmes.
One can stay if we only use 3 picks.
2017 is going to see very stiff competition for who gets delisted at the end of it.
Dempster probably will just play one more year.
Joey may go if we land a star FA mid or two.

Personally I would delist Holmes. I think we have one ruckman too many and it will affect the development of Longer, Pierce and Holmes trying to play all three at Sandi in 2017. In addition from what I saw of Holmes late in 2016 he is not going to make it. He is 26 yrs 11 months and so time is not really on his side.
Recent history tends to show that you can get ruckmen when you need them if you are short. Nankervis is IMO superior to Holmes and Tigers got him quite cheaply.

Re: Who are we going to delist?
Lee, Murdoch, Shenton templeton and Fisher . All bar fisher were not able to play senior footy this year consistently and have been passed by others either younger or have shown they just cant quite cut it. Fisher was gone once Brown came in . I fitting send off is due Round 1 for Fisher as great player for the club and a great steal in the draft.
Holmes and Pierce are the next in the gun i think and if both last for one it will be the last year in red white and black my guess

Totally agree, watched Sandy a bit this season and it did not work. Longer and Pierce did not get enough time in the ruck this year.
I do not see any reason for signing Holmes back up, I really admire what he has achieved but Longer and Pierce are better players and younger with more upside,

Personally I don't think we needed to keep Holmes as he does very little around the ground.
With Longer and Pierce we are adequately covered in the ruck.
One year will be our year

Re: Who are we going to delist?
I agree that our ruck options are adequately provided by Hickey, Longer and Pierce.
In regards any impact on balance at Sandringham, Sandringham is exclusively a player development vehicle and winning or losing (and playing finals) is not the essence of why that Club and its association with St Kilda FC exists.
Look at the players made unavailable for finals football at Sandringham both last year and this.
The focus of St Kilda FC is to have all Listed players returning to the training track at the one time, not a couple of weeks later because they played finals at Sandringham when St Kilda did not participate in finals football.

Re: Who are we going to delist?
imho
Out:
Delaney, Curren, Shenton, Templeton, Murdoch and Fisher
In:
Brown, Steele, Stevens, pick 23, pick 36, Holmes (upgrade using pick 61)
If no one at 36 appeals then Templeton could get re-drafted.
Fisher could get rookied if they feel he is required like Schneider was.
Lee survives as back up forward and back.
