May I point out that if this was saints players, I'd be equally disgusted....probably more given it would be yet another lack of judgement.

Was Mel Brooks sending up Hitler in the Producers in poor taste?
Was Charlie Chaplin in the Great Dictator similarly in poor taste?
Was their portrayals offensive to the Jewish community who had endured the holocaust?
Or were they comic geniuses actually mocking and belittling their subjects?
I think the latter.
Similarly someone dressed up as a poor mans Rolf is actually mocking him and all he once stood for.
I don't have an issue with that (esp. at a private function).
The sidekick dresses up as a girl is a bit different - that was a bad error of judgement.
