I'd agree, the beauty this year is if he isn't fit and in form, we have another option.mad saint guy wrote:I'd say Kosi at his best gets the gig, but how often is he fit and in form?

I don't mind that. And if our defence is being slaughtered in the air by some big power forwards, we'd have the option of dropping McEvoy back behind the play as we did last season and still have a presence in the rucks around the ground.bergholt wrote: FB: Geary, Simpkin, Gwilt

He played as a ruckman last season and a lot drop back a kick behind the play but he isnt a spare man. He doesnt play there for example when the ball is in our forward line. He then plays through the middle which is again a kick behind the play. It isnt a new trend BC it has been happening for at least 40 years.

Re: mcevoy
Since he can't be behind the play and in it at the same time, may I suggest that when he is needed behind the play that Hickey could take the hit outs?

No he wouldnt unless it is the forward line because the idea of only being a kick behind the play is you can get to the next ball up or throw in. Its more likely Hickey will be further away from that contest than Ben.

Well we must have modified that idea last season as someone else was taking the hit-outs.plugger66 wrote:No he wouldnt unless it is the forward line because the idea of only being a kick behind the play is you can get to the next ball up or throw in.

When and who? We basically only had Ben as a ruckman. I dont get the point anyway. Why would you have Ben taking the ruck and then running down to the backline? If you were going to be silly enough to have a ruckman as a spare down back why not just have the other guy do all the rucking including the centre bounce. You know why? Because the ruckman never plays as a spare down back but does sometimes play a kick behind play but still does the ruck work around the ground except in the forward line.
