He's one of the greatest defenders I seen in my time. And will perhaps be the unluckiest.
He may be watching from the stands, but I'm sure the players will still feel his presence from as far away as the field.
Thanks for 12 years of real heart and soul service, Max.

You effing disrespectful moron. (1) Disrespectful because you impugn the integrity of one of our greatest ever players, by even suggesting that he could do something like that and; (2) A moron for all of the above but especially because you still, despite several pleas, seem incapable of correctly spelling the name of the captain of the St Kilda Football Club.CaptainReiwoldt wrote:No doubt you are a stkilda legend BUT if you start sooking and going against the team then F YOU!!
Now just go away because in one single post you have wasted our time and good will at this very happy moment in our club's history.

After the match, win or lose, Hudghton is being urged to join his teammates.
It's beyond question he will receive a premiership medal.
But for 14 years, Hudghton was a warrior for the Saints.
If there were a life medal for character, integrity and honour, Hudghton deserves to be first in line.

I can't bring myself to write anything to Max just yet.
When I joined this forum and had to enter a user name, Max was the first and only thing that came to my mind.
If only I could sit fit into my Saints jumper with the number 8 on the back, I would wear it with pride this weekend
In fact, I might just go try it on......
Love ya Max

The ULTIMATE and consumate clubman.
Richo and Fev both described him as their toughest oponent which is one of the biggest compliments anyone could ever give.
True champion who gave his blood sweat and tears literally and metaphorically a true champion... Has been one of the most important players for the last 10 or so years.
Everyone loves Max most competitive person going around but the nicest guy also. He would be hurting but also pleased at the same time but could not have acted more professional.
We love you Max champion of the game.

I think he could go on one more year, love max, best full back I've seen, Ive seen those spearing low passes with the full forward leading fast and max has been right there and punched it away, dont think I've seen any other fb do that consistantly.... usually one the ff is on a lead with a spearing pass its guareenteed shot on goal, but not when you've got maxy
Still remember one game running backwards, someone coming, didnt flinch, cant remember if he marked it, was awesome
I'm not saying goodbye until I hear it from his own mouth, not some forum-hyped up thread!!
I also heard he was "thinking" of pulling the pin at the end of the year, but again HE HASN'T CALLED IT!!
I wish some people on here would get some perspective!
One is, he's not too old to go around again....or even again after that! The only reason he has missed his spot was due to an injury! Nobody in this team is bulletproof! Sometimes s*** just happens!
When they created LENNY HAYES (in the shadow of Harvs) they forgot to break the mold (again)- hence the Supremely Incredible Jack Steven!!
Does everybody remember the times he was knock out on behalf of the team and the goal.
The times he put himself purposely in harms way - and copped it.
Max is a warrior and the type of character we should all strive to be.
He showed us a decade ago what he felt about losing (that famous match against the Dogs).
He shows how devestated he is now. He wears his heart on his sleeve.
He had 14 years - 234 games. Cold comfort now but he could have been a Jarred Allen and retired at 21.
In the fullness of time I am sure Max will come to realise this.
Love ya Max.
Thank you.

At least he was spared the pain of defeat.
The more you know, the more you know you don't know.
When I was a young child, I knew that I knew so much about so much.
Now that I am old and know so much more, I know that I know so much about so little, and so little about so much.

Fantastic effort over the years Max.
The memories are still vivid:
1 Stan Alves dressing down at 3/4 time in the 1997 Grand Final.
2 The anguish on teh saft tissues injuries incurred over the years.
3 The agony shown at the end of close one with the Bulldogs.
4 The passion shown when combatting star forwards such as Fev, Buddy when out weighted but not outsmarted.
5 The passion shown to Goose when he did not meet your expected standard in game time.
6 The elation you show when you upstaged key players at times; Simon Black, Fevola, Barry Hall.
7 The no hold barred courageous approach to your game is second to no one except maybe Lenny. This is leadership by example that will not be met but others in t shorter term.
I salute you.

Midfield clearances and clear winners are needed to make an effective forward line.
You need to protect the ball handler to increase posession efficiency

it's not a dig at Zac at all...i never said Max should have played instead of Zac....I'm reckoning Max may have made the difference.....when Eddy was dumped it should have been for Max,not that Sydney rejectsaintspremiers wrote:bobmurray wrote:We might have won it if you'd have played Max.....
That is cruel, heartless and unecessary thing to say.
Really nice dig at Zac also, who did struggle.
I still back Ross and his call to play Zac ahead of Max.
Hindsight is wonderful isn't it
