this post proves how deluded some saints fans are.

im reading that raph, eddy and cj are future stars.. please stop dreaming guys.

plugger and doc are afl legends. not just saints legends. they are in the top players to have played the game. and you guys are comparing them to very very fringe players who are in and out of casey scorpions.

plugger had already kicked a couple of tons by the time he was raph and cj's age. get a GRIP!!!!!!!

OK give Ray No.35, that's the sort of number a new guy should get.

He had No.1 at Footscray.

Numbers up for grabs in 2009 :

4
6 ((probably)
9
10 (unlikely but possible)
21 (probably)
22 (possibly)
28 (possibly)
29 (possibly)
35
37
39

Reckon Eddy might move up from 40.
Maybe Sam Gilbert could go up to # 4.
Cousins for 6
Ray for 9

Who knows. Who really cares. Just idling away some time.

Nos #6 & #29 are associated with empty lockers, if that helps narrow it down.

And which is the higher number? I always thought higher meant higher up the player list in the record.

Depending on any trades (O'Keefe?), or who we draft, I'd look at promoting Eddy to #4.
That would be akin to giving Stephen Newport #1 after Barks retired!

Save #4 for a quality, long term player... not someone who has huge question marks over whether he will be around in 12 months time. Eddy is a honest toiler who can run all day but has shown little actual football ability.

I like the Sam Fisher suggestion if we don't give it to a young draftee.
RE: Eddy.

Look beyond what you can see. 8-)
Not 100% on what you mean Sen but I assume you're talking about Eddy's potential (I've seen him miss easy goals, drop marks but try his heart out).

I didn't mean to slur Eddy but I just see him as a bloke who is very limited skills wise and limited scope for improvement. I love his endeavour but I would argue that giving him #4 is getting a bit ahead of where he is right now (a bloke off the rookie list who is far from guaranteed a medium term future at the club). He does have some similarities with Thommo but Thommo had a great couple of years before getting the #4.
Think Eddy is only a shot of confidence, a break out game if you like from showing what his potential is, just the fact that he has competed so well without the ball whilst he hasnt been able to do a lot with it says a lot about his charachter and determination.
Eddy should get 4, Jack Steven 35 and our incoming top draft pick number 9. If 6 is available then Farren Ray.

Maybe this year?

Number 4

Post: # 662317Post crackers35 »

Give the number 4 to someone like Jones, R.Clarke or Gilbert

Farren Ray was #1 at the bulldogs so if we get rid of L.Fisher give Ray #6

If we get Cousins give him the #9

As for #35, it should be retired forever unless a player comes along and is almost an exact replica of Harvey ie. Hard trainer, never give up, loved by everyone.

Looking forward to 2010 - I'm gonna Lovett!
