Byrnes is just the same just average and hopefully he plays majority of his year in the VFL in 2025
He played a very good game for us against Carlton and has shown good signs of improvement.

You know it's possible for players to improve once they've played around 50 games. Some improve markedly between 50-80 and some even further after 80 games. Ronnie is on 63

Saying he 'hopefully' plays majority in the VFL totally ignores reality and is a sh*t comment to make, to try and say "I was right".

Your views on Bonner changed, so perhaps try and remain open to the possibility that Byrnes continues to perform to a good standard in the seniors
If Byrnes is playing regular seniors we haven’t improved.

Rubbish statement without anything to back it up.

You're seeing Byrnes as someone who cannot improve based ONLY on his early years and your bs bias

Ryan's key stats are justification for his spot in the team. His metrics including disposal efficiency and score involvements and goal assists are better than one of our most highly paid players

In Byrnes last 7 games he has gained more disposals and been more productive than Brad Hill in Brad's last 7 games. Hill -111 possessions to Byrnes -121.

Allison drafted at mid 20's? & Van Es at pick 31.

As a club (recruitment, medical, development) we simply have to do more with these picks in this range.

Other than just recently (Owens, Windhager) our record of developing players in this range over the years has been quite ordinary
Van Es was the player we selected with the pick received from GCS for Ben Long.

Seriously your using possession comparisons between a player the opposition put work into stopping compared to Byrnes who they wouldn’t care.

Byrnes is Lyon's ideal footballer. 100% role player with 110% commitment. Hard at it. Will keep going however many ribs you break and on one leg if asked. Don't hold your breath to see him out of the 22.

Byrnes is one of the fittest guys at the club and is a gut runner. For Ross Lyon, that in itself is an asset to his game plan.

His foot skills are far better than many on here give him credit for and his recent games have been earned, not gifted because of the lack of availability of other players.

I've always seem something in him, just like I always saw something in Sinclair, who had a similar trajectory and output to Byrnes at the same age. Sinclair teased is with the odd good quarter here and there in his first 5 years, but then at the age of 24 blossomed into the player he is today.

Some guys burst into the scene while others chip away and through hard work get to level required.

No mention of tags I said put work into. I doubt very much theres any thought into where Byrnes is positioned.

Hill was tagged vs Geelong

But yeah,
His last 7 weeks was average at best

Both he and Byrnes averaged under 20pg as Wingers - not enough! Best wingers in the game average 25

Bonner simply just a walking Clanger

Van Es and Allison unlucky
Geez you jumped of the Bonner bandwagon pretty quickly Curly.

Back in May he was a key part of our future.

Note: you still never miss a chance to bag Byrnes!
CURLY wrote: Tue 07 May 2024 2:32pm Byrnes I agree is not good enough.

Bonner on the other hand is a key part going forward. His kick to Hayes to give him his first goal was elite.

You are an idiot! Bonner was the one that got delisted!

Byrne's still young. Can't delist too many players. There is only a 4-5 draft picks (after top 25 it is a complete lottery) and player swaps are often a balance.
More than 8 player turnover is alot.

That's 6 players off the list now and i doubt that will be all that go, i think there'll be a couple more.

How many can we realistically bring in though that would be realistic prospects.

Let’s say 4 draft
2 traded/recruited/FA or whatever… that’s decent. More seems a stretch

The last few years it's been at least 8 players, time will tell.
