Crap effort. The club doesn't seem to worried though.

what do you expect when everyone talks down the club, it's players and results.

Would you want to be a member of a club that is currently wanting to eat its own (take here as an example)

And to those ranking us up with north, I wonder how many are actually north supporter intent on being members for the next 10+ years.

All up I've bought 5 memberships this year - 1 Adult and 4 Cherub/Little Angles/Squadron mixture.

The cheapy baby/little kids memberships only cost about $25 to $45, and count as a member on the tally.

The 4 kids I've bought them for (my 2 and a niece and nephew) will likely not go to game this year, or maybe just 1.

This is a good option to boost up numbers if you want to donate but can't afford an Adult membership

Support holds up for WA clubs
15/07/2008 4:42:14 PM
Sportal
The two Perth AFL clubs might be enduring the year from hell on the field but their supporters are proving amazingly resilient off it.

Between them West Coast and Fremantle have won just four games this season with the Eagles' enduring their worst season since joining the competition in 1987 while the only worst year Fremantle has endured since joining the competition in 1995 was in 2001 when it finished last.

Yet despite both clubs being in contention for this year's wooden spoon - their high membership levels have barely been dented.

The AFL released its final membership figures for 2008 on Tuesday which showed the 16 clubs between them chalked up a record 574,091 club members - an increase of eight percent on last year's figure of 532,697.

Eleven of the 16 clubs enjoyed increases in membership this season with Adelaide again leading the way with 48,720 members - even though they were one of just five clubs to suffer a fall in membership this season, having had just under 51,000 members last year.

The Eagles were another of the five clubs to suffer a membership fall but the fact they fell just 2.4 percent to 44,863 members - down from 45,949 last year - was remarkable not only considering the club's dramatic slide down the ladder this season but also the loss of two of the club's greatest ever players at the end of last season in Ben Cousins and Chris Judd.

The Dockers' membership proved just as loyal in trying circumstances with the club recording 43,466 members in 2008 - virtually the same as last year's 43,343.

But whether the two Perth clubs can retain such phenomenal support next year - in the wake of their disastrous 2007 seasons - remains to be seen.

The only other clubs to suffer membership falls in 2008 were St Kilda - down 1.1 percent - Sydney, down 7.1 percent and surprisingly the Western Bulldogs down 1.5 percent.

However the Western Bulldogs - whose membership of 28,306 was above only Sydney's tally of 26,721 and Brisbane's tally of 22,737 - can expect a significant membership boost this season in light of their superb season in which the club has emerged as a chance to win its first premiership since 1954.

Meanwhile four clubs enjoyed massive membership increases in 2008 in the Kangaroos - in the wake of their fight to remain a Melbourne-based club - up 45.8 percent to 32,600 members while Hawthorn enjoyed a 33 percent increase to 41,436 members, Geelong a 22 percent increase on the back of last year's first premiership since 1963 to 36,650 members while surprisingly Essendon enjoyed a 28 percent increase - despite the departure of Kevin Sheedy and James Hird - to 41,947 members.

Unless the Herald sun misprinted the figure the total is even worse than what we have been told. Very disappointing this year being only 1700 ahead of the lowest Victorian side. You would actually think both Melbourne and Bulldogs will pass us next year unless we can somehow at least get to the second or third week of the finals.

Do we drop off quicker than most when you consider we didnt finish badly last year and won our first 6 games we played this year. Anyone got answers because I am confused. Is it we didnt advertise enough, how we play or other reasons.

I think we will fare better in 2009 as that is when the Membership roll-over will really kick in. Yes, membership needs to be Marketed more aggressively and if done correctly I can't see why we can't make it to 35,000+ in 2009. Let's not forget that there was too much instability at the club between late last year and early this year. That must have had an effect. Lets hope that we remain stable over summer !!

I hope you are right but there is nothing to suggest we could ever get near 35000 unless we won a flag. And I doubt that will happen this year. I would suspect between 28000-30000 if we finish around 6-9.

It will always be difficult reaching a healthy membership level when you have people like Plugger and many others who never have a positive thought to say.

The Club is supposed to have around 180,000 as a supporter base and to think that 20% of that number can't be converted to paying members is a bl..dy disgrace.

I have seen very little marketing and advertising this year which must have a negative effect - let's hope the club gets it's finger out later this year and promote for a healthy membership next year.

Also, to Plugger and his dreary negative mates, how about showing some support for our Club

Hey whoever you are you wouldnt have a clue how much I support the Saints so you have no right what so ever to suggest I dont support them. For all I know you mightnt be a member. Also I never hardly ever have a go at players unlike many on here and usually stick up for them. I was pointing out how our membership is poor. If you dont want to live in the real world that is your problem.

Finally your post is having a go at the club and is negative as well or do you not think while you type.

Well Plugger, tell me, why don't you and your mates have a positive comment to make - or don't you know what that means.

And incidentally, I am a member and been a TRUE Saints supporter for more than 45 years.

Wells that good. So am I. firstly I doubt anyone on here would call me a mate and secondly I do write things on here but if I think something or someone is wrong I will say so whether it is positive or negative.
