Best Players: D. Langlands, B. Seccull, R. Young, J. Marsh, N. Hind, B. White
good to see Langlands, Marsh, White in the best.. Young continues to do well. No surprises with Hind or Secull at this level.

Armo wasn’t among our best on the night. Thanks to the poster who reminded me that White was good. The wind made kicking accurately difficult and he shines there.

Hope Langlands gets a nod soon.
Criminally underrated at our club... always seems to pop up in the bests these days and is the type of player we need
How did Coffield go?

Robbie Young will play soonish. Way too good for the VFL.
Posters that have admitted they were wrong about Hanna's gastro and the club didn't create a cover story.

Agree Ted, from the little I’ve seen of him he looks a standard above VFL.tedtheodorelogan2018 wrote: ↑Sat 06 Apr 2019 10:37am Robbie Young will play soonish. Way too good for the VFL.
You’d think he’d be placing a lot of pressure on Kent at the moment.
Would guess it’s an interesting discussion at selection.
Great to see competition for places in the team, great way to improve standards and team ethos.

If Young beats down the door assuming no injuries is it Kent, Lonie or another most likely to make away?

Re: VFL Rd 1- Sandringham vs Footsrcray
Joffa, based on Richo's post-GC comments on Kent, he's likely to make way if he can't exceed 8 possies (against Injectors, that's his return) and Lonie is safe while he competes fiercely like an Italian nonna at Dimmeys or Forges

In the minority but I’ve been a bit of a Lonie fan for a while.WellardSaint wrote: ↑Sat 06 Apr 2019 12:15pm Joffa, based on Richo's post-GC comments on Kent, he's likely to make way if he can't exceed 8 possies (against Injectors, that's his return) and Lonie is safe while he competes fiercely like an Italian nonna at Dimmeys or Forges
I was premature in calling him for a breakout year in 2018 but he ended the season well and started 2019 the same.
He has awareness, skill and heart and can win the ball.
If a forward was to go for Young I’d think Kent under most pressure.
Kent can do damage when he has it with that left boot but looks a low possession player to me. His running capacity doesn’t look great either.

Re: VFL Rd 1- Sandringham vs Footsrcray
Looks like spots 20 - 22 in the team could be up for grabs each week assuming minimal injuries and form dependent.
Far better depth and good competition for these spots between Kent, Long, Clark, Coffield, Paton, Phillips, Hind, Young, etc not to mention Armo. The other good point is all these on the fringe can be effective and can cement a position by stringing a few good performances together.
Healthy competition

As I live in Perth, I can't see what Kent (and everyone else, too) does off the ball, whether they get to the wrong spots,Joffa Burns wrote: ↑Sat 06 Apr 2019 12:36pmIn the minority but I’ve been a bit of a Lonie fan for a while.WellardSaint wrote: ↑Sat 06 Apr 2019 12:15pm Joffa, based on Richo's post-GC comments on Kent, he's likely to make way if he can't exceed 8 possies (against Injectors, that's his return) and Lonie is safe while he competes fiercely like an Italian nonna at Dimmeys or Forges

what they get up to off the ball,
but as I'm seeing them live tomorrow, I intend to focus intently on everything.
Will post my impressions of Kent tomorrow.

Re: VFL Rd 1- Sandringham vs Footsrcray
Lonie has been very good in our first 2 games, backing up to his excellent finish to last season. So he is safe in the 22 at present.Joffa Burns wrote: ↑Sat 06 Apr 2019 12:00pm

Competition for spots is excellent to have. For Young to get in the most likely player for him to displace is Kent. Kents first two games have been so so.
Parker had a very good first game and a so so second game. But he has height and so provides something different to the small forwards.
Long got dropped, but not for lack of ball winning ability. You suspect he will be pushing hard for a recall once he addresses playing team football over his current bull at the gate approach. We love his enthusiasm, but he will one more valuable when he plays his role better.

Re: VFL Rd 1- Sandringham vs Footsrcray
That was very hard to watch, the lads looked bad in general and to be specific they looked slow, poor decision making, wasted effort, minimal passion for 1 percenters, not a single player stood out in my vision.
Thst doesn't mean some were not ok, Armitage was class because even old dogs can bark, Longer was decent, but the young ones ( Langlands was Best ) were poor, I was really put off, I came away feeling a bit of hope fading....knowing several players we dream will be part of our future are miles away from it, if ever.

Also Rice seems the forgotten man now, how did he go?
Did Coffield play?

In case you missed it.

Things can and do turn around quickly. Re: VFL Rd 1- Sandringham vs Footsrcray
Rice spent some time forward in a forward line without talls and had no opportunities or did little, depending on your point of view.
Coffield played as a loose man in defence. One classy shimmy and pinpoint disposal was all there was to report though.
Yes our skills were not up to our opponents in the twosbut hardly cause for terminal pessimism.
