From Lethlean:

"Jack will use this time to take a break from the daily routine of training and concentrate on his health," Lethlean said.

"I know he is desperate to get back to training and preparing for the season as quickly as possible, but the most important thing is making sure he is in the right headspace to do so.

"We ask that Jack be given the time and privacy to deal with this matter."

Well that’s better news - just a temporary break I read into that.

Still 3 and half weeks till season starts - 2 weeks off will do him wonders and he should be back at the club hopefully a week prior to round 1 refreshed.

It important to the team that Jack is able to fire but more important that he assess and resets where is menral health is at. 3 and a half weeks in the scheme of things is insignificant.

As Einstein said 'In the middle of adversity lies opportunity' Opportunity for Jack to take a step back and reframe his life around whats really important and, in regards to the club, opportunities for our younger players to step up and be counted. Lets hope some good comes of it all.

Just asking the question no one else was, especially after the events and chat of the last week.

Buddy Franklin doesn’t seem to get the benefit of the doubt around here. The colour of one’s jumper shouldn’t matter when dealing with mental health.

Sorry for offending you, I’ll be sure to be more careful in the future :)

I just hope the club didn't over react in the wake of the GT-Roo Media Explosion this week and summon all players for an inquisition on drugs and drug testing. That would be depressing for players who like to toke on a little weed to relax.

You're quite brilliant Shane, yeah..terrific!

Not a shocking post at all. Completely reasonable in the circumstances and if you think it’s not what every opposition club supporter is thinking, you’re kidding yourself. You reckon if Dusty Martin takes time out with mental health issues, questions wouldn’t be asked?

Ppl getting outraged just stifles discussion. Roo made some pretty strong statements this week. Hard to believe he wouldn’t know Jack’s situation. A little insensitive by our former captain? Or does he know something and is sick and tired of it?

The club made this a public issue. Could easily have said he’s strained a hammy.

I want to believe Jack. I really do. But then my mind wanders to a pre season camp in which he was suspended as a result of his behaviour about 7-8 years ago for mixing uppers and downers.

Our very own Roo has brought this loophole to public attention. Whether we like it or not a degree of cynicism will be met for awhile when ANY AFL player says they’re taking a break for ‘mental health ‘ issues

Jaxons outlined the reason earlier in this thread, nothing to do with drugs, and that will do me. If some on social media just wish to assume that mental illness always means a drug issue, I guess that is up to them. Typical social media toxicity.

Roo made statements as a result of GT's overblown comments, and there is no indication that it had anything to do with Jack.

In any event, the sooner Jack can get back to being fully fit and healthy and tearing out of the centre the better.

His marriage has broken up. He’s stressed out, upset and trying to come to terms with the new reality of probably being a weekend or part time father etc. no time for cynicism or innuendo. Or football. Just support that he gets through it. Who gives a rats what other supporters think ? Certainly not me or I wouldn’t support the saints in the first place. Fortius Quo Fidelius

I'm with Moods on this. Was my first thought when I read the headline. And re Jaxon's contribution (which I really felt was a bad case of over-sharing) in what universe are marital issues and drug use mutually exclusive?

Nobody has said marital issues and drug use are mutually exclusive.

Missing our two best players and first draft pick is not an ideal start to the season!

Absolutely nothing to do with illicit substances. Absolutely nothing. It’s a private matter and he has full support of players and staff at the club.

Nothing to do with drugs, he has separated from his wife and they have a young child.
That would be grounds for depression, even for the most well-adjusted people. Could be six to eight weeks plus however long it takes him to recover any fitness he has lost.

The most important thing is that he gets himself right before attempting a return. Footy isn’t that important in the total scheme of things. I hope the club and supporters close ranks behind him

if we are going to delve publicly in to players lives and keeping in mind how players like to live on twitter/instagram/facebook
Did DH's relationship end before or after he was signed to move to the saints?

Sorry that's not at all true.
Both Roo and GT were being interviewed about the AFL drug policy and how the mental issue loophole had rendered the policy a farce in BOTH of their opinions.

Roo was asked mid interview about GT's comments
GT was asked during his interview about this recollection of his time as coach.
They were both being interviewed about the AFL policy .
But its hilarious how people perceive things
for whatever "reason" some are furious over the value of rife
but yet they are not upset by Roo labelling the AFL policy loophole & out of season drug usage “out of control”
