We were the beneficiary of the AFL rules in the early 2000's but failed to capitalize.Darth Vader wrote:I’m sure Longmire is a better coach than Richo but let’s do a comparison of the teams after we’ve had 10 years of COLA followed by 5 years of an academy giving us the pick of the best youth in the state.
We were gifted #2 compensation pick only three years after playing in a GF along with our #1 in 2000 allowing us to secure Kossie along with Rooey.
We again got a compensation pick in 2001 giving us #5 in the super draft along with #2.
First pick in the pre-season draft meant something in those days as an out of contract player would walk for free if you gave them a big offer. This is how we secured Hamill and also traded for Gehrig getting him for understand.
We took advantage of the AFL's rules and generosity but failed to achieve the ultimate glory!

Tom McCartin had 3 tackles.
Probably more than Paddy has had in his career thus far.
From what I saw of Tom McCartin in the under 18 ' he is a very different player to Paddy. Outside of them sharing the surname probably not a great comparison.
Whatever 'type' of player' he is - it isnt an effective one in today's footy.
Unless they change the rules to a 6-6-6 zone - he is in BIG trouble with his playing style.
Even with a 6-6-6 I think his poor technique and head clashes and below par set shot goal kicking would prevent him being a good player.
Lets get realistic. He is in serious trouble. If he wasnt a pick 1 - we would all be writing him off.
I am still waiting for the request to be actioned.

What 'tools' do you speak of?CURLY wrote:

Can you be specific?
