RICHMOND 14.14 (98) d SANDRINGHAM 12.17 (89)

Form: Richmond – W W W W W / Sandringham – L L W L L

Telling facts: Richmond notched a fifth consecutive win by over-powering Sandringham in a rainy second half at Trevor Barker Beach Oval. The Zebras held a 21-point lead early in the third quarter, but the Tigers then reeled off seven of the next nine goals – including four to 23rd player Kayle Kirby of the Bendigo Pioneers – to stay in the finals hunt and cause Sandringham to drop out of the top four.

Leading goalkickers: Kirby 5, Conca 2, Vickery 2 (Richmond) / Shenton 3, Fisscher 3, Curren 2 (Sandringham)

The facts are that the relevance of State League competitions, and therefore premierships in those competitions, is compromised by the presence of AFL Clubs in those competitions.

The focus of the AFL Clubs is on the AFL competition, exclusively.

The ONLY thing to take from State League matches from an AFL perspective is the performance/s of players who are clearly in focus for AFL selection - coming back from injury or junior players still at development stage/s.

From this stage of the season the priority is to either have your Reserve Players still playing competitive football as a back up in the event of injuries in your Finals bound AFL side OR, in regard players who will remain of AFL Lists, to ensure that all post season procedures are promptly attended for the resumption of pre-season training.

The presence of AFL and AFL aligned Clubs in State Leagues has decimated their relevance past the foregoing considerations.

Sandringham, as St Kilda's aligned VFL team, is there for a purpose - not a result.

The AFL Clubs in the other competitions, being the SANFL, the WAFL and the NEAFL, have compromised those Leagues and their relevance along with their popularity.

And, unfortunately, with falling spectator interest the reliance is now on State League survival revenue from the AFL who, accordingly, dictate to those Leagues to their continuing detriment and decline (due to lack of spectator interest including in the Code per se).

With the VFL there is no junior structure supporting the Senior Clubs (stand alone TAC Cup instead) whilst, in the other Leagues the Junior competitions (now aligned to the TAC Cup in regards age limitations) are there for "Cherry picking" despite being financed by those stand alone State League Clubs within the Salary Cap imposed by the AFL (so including League, Reserves and Under 18 sides), hence the rise of suburban and Amateur League football competitions and the player payments they offer.

I've watched him very closely since his return... I think it's 6 games in a row now.

He has been very underwhelming, ordinary at best with his skill and effort... At either level.

But as I've said before, judgement is referred to 2017 on him... Anyone else, he'd be delisted clearly on his output. He is ATM a poor mans Josh Saunders.

What a piss week thing to say about a player coming back from a near career ending injury.

and about another who currently sits on our list.

If you're too stupid to see that he's being eased into matches and that the task is obvioulsy just to get him back out there again, then you <<<< MOD EDIT >>>

In fairness to BM nothing harsh was said. Judgement will be made in 2017.
