Re: Andrew Gaff
Certainly give our first rounder, and lure him with a big contract...why should it take more than that??? .....but Acres shouldn't be anywhere near the trade table.
Nee!

He is alluding to JOM. Stated were were willing to part with our 2016 first rounder or Acres, this site suggested it might take both. Not sure of the source, but thought it was worth a discussion here.
Now, a 23 year old with 120-odd games sounds right up our alley, but with Acres in the mix I think there's too much currency being thrown around. I'd be happy to part with our first rounder, and get WC's 2nd rounder back, as he is out of contract.
Had a look at his player profile, and he played his junior footy at Saints feeder club Kew Comets (home of a couple of Jack's in Billings and Sinclair). Averaging 30 touches a week in 2016, I haven't taken much notice of him to be honest. Seems like a hard running all-rounder, decent kick, outside-type who is a good finisher.
Thoughts??
Acres will be a champion, something Gaff will never be.
Anyway , the suns have first dibbs on our first round pick.
For Who?

The funniest part is the concept of trading with the Eagles...that hasn't happened for a long time (although we did well when we last traded). They'd want half our team for Gaff!

Re: Andrew Gaff
We're in a bit of a golden era talent wise.
Results aren't on the board yet, but there have been glimpses.
We've traded senior players for picks, traded down picks, packed picks and we've come out well.
Basically got Longer & Bruce for picks 25 & 41
Weller was delisted
Membrey was delisted
Roberton was delisted
Savage and Dunstan for McEvoy
Acres the same year after a packaging and swapping of picks
plus ALL the young talent is signed up for the next few years at least. The list management team should be commended.
But ALL of this will be for nothing if we go out and splash a heap of cash on one player.
We need to build a culture. Keep this young core together, have them all want to stay and play together. They take pay cuts to stay together. If someone wants to much money, let them leave. Build the right culture and we'll be a dynasty

Agreed, the Eagles will want us to pay premium, like two 1st-round picks or a 1st-round pick and a kid.degruch wrote:The funniest part is the concept of trading with the Eagles...that hasn't happened for a long time (although we did well when we last traded). They'd want half our team for Gaff!
However, unlike the Brown saga, Gaff is out-of-contract, so Eagles won't exactly be in the box seat, depending on his club preferences and how badly he actually wants to come back to Melbourne.

Didn't we get screwed when Jamie Cripps walked out on the club and gave us no option? If he nominates the Saints and no other options - 4th rounder at best is all we should give up.

We didn't get screwed too badly. We ended up with Murdoch. Hindsight says we should have got Lachie Hunter.Doctor Two wrote:SydneySainter wrote:Agreed, the Eagles will want us to pay premium, like two 1st-round picks or a 1st-round pick and a kid.degruch wrote:The funniest part is the concept of trading with the Eagles...that hasn't happened for a long time (although we did well when we last traded). But Gaff is AA and just won a B&F at 22 so he obviously demands a top 5 pick.

We had no bargaining power as Cripps basically walked out on us and they were probably not that concerned about getting him.MC Gusto wrote:we def got screwed and we owe them one for cripps. they negotiated like we should have for carlisle and freeman

Re: Andrew Gaff
Hunter was a father son
Think we got Murdoch and Saunders as it was one of Pelicans two for 1 deals
Also interestingly there was a player taken by Sydney in between murdoch and Saunders by the name of Tim membrey -
Pick 46

Worth a top 5 pick
Carlisle, IMO we paid too much.... Should have been a second round and sweetner. If that couldn't get it done, too bad. You cannot be desperate in any negotiation.
Cripps, we lost a pick 24 with 3 years development and got pick 43

We could have been equally as covert with our intent in order to hold the cards. We blew our load early and gave away too much

Re Acres to prevent the go home factor we just need to find him a nice lady who has very strong family ties in Melbourne (I'm assuming he's straight, if not a bloke!).

I won't argue that the Eagles negotiated better on the Cripps trade, but we weren't Carlisle's sole club of choice.MC Gusto wrote:In other words they negotiated better!!!SydneySainter wrote:Cripps wanted to go to West Coast a lot more than West Coast appeared to want him, whereas St. Kilda were adamant on getting Carlisle.MC Gusto wrote:Clutching at straws

Although he did nominate the Saints as he "preferred" destination, when both clubs were playing hard ball, the Hawks swooped and made an offer that the Bombers accepted and seeing as Carlisle didn't to re-enter the draft, nominated the Hawks as his next best option should no trade with the Saints be brokered.
Apples and Oranges.
