In all fairness to the recruiters he was a late starter in the sport and hadnt committed as an elite junior. He is a natural sportsman and was still committed to cricket at 16. Im pretty sure Billings was the one who identified him. Hard to pick a guy that isnt sure if he wants to play 18's.Sobraz wrote:Absolutely lethal around goal..
The fact he slipped to the rookie draft really makes you question if recruiters overthink things sometimes..
A pure footballer with brilliant skills.. Look back at that draft, he is top 20 easily right now and will push top 10 as his career unfolds in what was a very strong age group (the year before he was recruited, which is his actual draft age).
Dead set gun.

Re: Jack Sinclair
That's not entirely true.
In Y11 he was overlooked by his TAC team Oakleigh, same old story that they were looking for tall athletes and the stocky small fwd didn't appeal. Similar story to Toby McLean.
He got disheartened and decided to concentrate on cricket. He didn't start with Oakleigh as an 18yo but when they lost players to injury and Vic Metro he was convinced an put in after good school form. He held his spot, therefore started taking it serious. He was invited back as a 19yo to play TAC cup. And also played for Port Melbourne in the VFL. That is were he really impressed our recruiters, because he was able to contribute against AFL listed men.
He was still a roughie selection even after that... It was thought he wasn't there athletically and whilst he was a neat player... He was limited in scope... The same reason Sam Mitchell was overlooked n 2000 and lasted to Pick 36 in 2001
Recruiters are blinkered by trying to pick player who may develop ahead of ones the think may not develop... Even if they are better at the time
There is two guys at Frankston who should be playing AFL right now... But are not

You are correct. The two are best mates and have been for many a year as part of a group of 5. They are on the fringe of one of my daughters social circles through school and sport.CQ SAINT wrote:

They also both attended Scotch College where Jack played in both the 1st XI Cricket and 1st XVIII Football . He was awarded the H I Cohen Trophy. This award is presented to the best all-rounder in the 1st XI Cricket team each season.
Football wise he was given the flick as a bottom ager. But chose not to play as top ager before coming back as a 19 year old.
Jack also maintains the tradition of Granfather/ Grandsons which we have done better at than Father/Sons.
