Select 2 meter Peter with pick 4 now Stanley has gone and get a mid with pick 7.
So we can develop him for the next 5-6 years and then trade him?
Why would he be traded at the time where the club is planning on hitting our peak? Yes we have developed Stanley for 6 or so years but what has he shown in that time?
Because it could be argued that Stanley could be at his peak at that time and Wright could be a 200cm, inconsistent 23yo ruck/fwd as many are.

Stanley has certainly been inconsistent however, correct me if I'm wrong but according to stats he's actually one of the best contested marks around and his avgs compare quite well with similar yet more highly regarded players. I just think that we've acted at least a year too early.

But who knows, time will tell. I hope we get what we want with pick 21..

Rhys I'm sure is a quality guy off field, but unfortunately (unless I've missed something) for a big man he was easily muscled out of the game, far too often for my liking, and more often than not, could have done with showing far more aggression and hunger at the contest. I wish him well, but will not be holding my breath to see him get a premiership medal. It's always controversial at trade time, and hard calls have to be made, I personally think this is a good move, for all concerned.
Clearly AR didn't rate Rhys all that highly, pick 21 will let them try again with a different player.

The Saints are under review, will it make any difference to the underachievers ?

Pick 1 only for

4,6,7
slab of Stella
1 bag of premium sativa bud
bar tab at local brisbane strip joint for away games.

Thatd be fair.

Let's replace Rhys with some of the big guys we already have on the list and use our picks to get the best available talent (if that's judged to be PW then so be it)
Rhys was pick 40 odd.. Wright is going to be top 4. I reckon 2 meter Peter has more upside. I actually would be happy to get him if we end up with pick 4.

Sorry Jiggster can't agree with you this time,he didn't come from a footballing background so was always going to take time he played 2 injury plagued years, one year out of position in the back line and the last two years steadily improving ,he is a hard worker, the strongest at the club,200cm & runs like the wind ,we needed patience but alas it was not to be ,we will regret this one, let's hope that something pops up for 21 ,oh & Roo was huge wraps for Stanley thought he could take over from him , I think we must remember the delivery into our forward line was woeful also!

2 meter Peter has a stuffed back already not great for a 18 year old ruckman/Forward who's back is going to cop some knees !

If we get 4, 6 & 7 then surely well trade 21 for someone?

I haven't been paying attention, but are we talking about 4, 6 & 7 swapped for our pick 1?

As crazy as it sounds - that is what is being discussed here yes.
Even crazier - I am half believing/convincing myself it might happen.
But I also convinced myself we were going to get Cameron. So i dont even trust me.
They dont call it the silly season for nothing.

One "insider" has us getting 4, 6 & 7 for 1.

Another "insider" now has us keeping 1 and drafting CP.

Don't know what to think

I am not sure about this trade. Rhys was showing some good signs of improvement - a bit belatedly, but improvement all the same. The recruiters will have to be spot on with their pick 21 to justify this move.

We get Rhys in, put several years of development into him and then let him go. What guarantee is there that our next player "punt" will be any better?

That's why I am concerned about the trade. We don't have a ready replacement yet for Rooey and Rhys was on the improve - despite poor delivery in to him. I would have given Rhys next year to prove himself.

I agree most players play their best footy after the 50 game mark - so his best is head of him.

But at the same age Roo had 213 goals to Rhys 30.

I think the chance of Rhys being a replacement for Rooey are very very very close to zero.

If Rhys was the replacement for Nick, we were looking at at least five more wooden spoons!
