No - you'd obviously always draft and develop the best young talent - but as soon as any of the A graders start becoming divas and demanding - or show signs of it, you'd aim to trade them for 2 skillful B graders - you might also aim to give up/shed a C grader/GOP in the process.dragit wrote:samoht wrote: All semantics where you rate players I guess, but do we get rid of Steven and Billings because they are above "skillful b graders"?
A midfield of 8 b-graders against collingwood, hawthorn, fremantle or sydney would get absolutely slaughtered.
To my way of thinking, a team of 22 skillful B graders will match it with a team of 6 A graders, 10 B graders and 6 GOPS - and will also remain a more stable (and easier to coach) lineup for longer.
You'd obviously hang on to anyone who develops into an A grade player and who has the team in mind and doesn't start making too many demands.
In the meantime, you don't go after established A graders/free agents who are after $600,000 plus.
