If margin is the criteria for best quarter.
Then our 3 worst quarters ever are ...

3rd worst quarter margin = 72
1932 R18 Junction Oval Caaarlton 2nd quarter 11.6 72 vs 0.0 0

2nd worst quarter margin = 77
1976 R19 Princes Park against Caaarlton 4th quarter 12.6 78 vs 0.1 1

Worst?
Worst was the greatest single quarter debacle in VLF/AFL history
1919 R12 Lakeside Oval vs South Melb 4th quarter 17.4 106 vs 0.0 0
That is 106 points
Greatest quarter score, only score over 100 and greatest quarter margin of all time as we Capitulated with a Capital C.
Harold Robertson scored 14 goals.

A match that sits as a festering sore in our history along with the Cat-astrophic Corio Oval Capitulation of 1899.
Take your pick as to which of those two is the most embarrassing moment in our history.

Could it be true can we overrun them in one of the most sensational comebacks of all time. We kick 8 straight in 13 mins of football. We are level - the game becomes an epic battle as the sainters are alive with belief against a team who are now shocked and in awe. The ball goes into the dons forward line and van der Haar takes a mark six inches off the ground running with the flight of the ball. He kicks truly and we end up losing. But that was the moment I realized that we could be completive after years of misery. The feeling was amazing and it's been a much better ride ever since
I was at work at a bookies (think that was in the final year of off field bookies in the nt that year, which would put it at 1985) listening to that game on the radio and couldn't concentrate on the work at hand as I was too busy cheering every goal. Lucky it happened at the end of the day and was just paying out happy punters in no need of getting another bet on. Think we were over 60 down near the end of the third quarter. Those were the days - celebrating an exciting loss - could be in store for more of the same ahead.

But technically the answer is 73 points.
Our highest ever score in any quarter.

2nd quarter Round 10 2004 vs Caaarlton at Docklands
12.1 73 to 2.1 13
On our way to our second highest ever score (31.10 196) in our biggest ever win over Carlton (108 points).
What an enjoyable win that was against the Scumbags of the competition.
Only sour note was G-train not getting to 10 goals and the win was the last of the glorious 10 in a row 2004 Dreamtime.
Yes, unforgettable day. For my girlfriend at the time, it was the first footy match she'd attended. She didn't care for football before, but was sold after that experience.
Rex Hunt kept whisteling the Harlem Globe trotters theme in that first half. We took the p*ss out of carlton in that first half, showed them zero respect, handballing over our heads without looking, playing on at all costs, jeez Carlton were terrible that day. I remember walking out dissapointed we didn't crack the 200. Those were the days

Here you go you can watch it in all it's GLORY!

When I read your Subject line I thought of exactly that quarter too.

Thanks mate,I actually did go back and watch it yesterday after I posted that, had a feeling you might have put it on. I was wrong with the score,8.3 to 0.3 at qrt time. Funny how you remember games,I always thought we did it early in the first, but it all happened late

Great work as always, mate!

I just watched that quarter, very enjoyable. Not only because we thumped them but because of the commentary. Cometti and Roberts just called the game. They didn't give the players nicknames, they didn't banter with each other about what happened last night, they didn't have a go at the umpires, they didn't laugh at Gary Ayres' hair, they didn't tell us about the betting odds.

They just told us what was happening on the field. Pretty f****** simple - when did our commentators become morons?
