Not only are we missing Jack in round one, but Joey and Sam Gilbert. Three crucial players. Can't cover the loss of all three. Bad start to the year coming up.

they dont want to crowd him - the club is giving him some space.

Changes vs last week.

IN: Dempster, Gwilt, Hayes, Lee, Minchington, Riewoldt, Schneider, Shenton, Weller
OUT: Bruce, Dennis-Lane, Dunell, Roberton, Stanley, Steven (inj)

My interpretation on the outs:

Bruce: Not massively impressive last week, not ready yet.
Dennis-Lane: Has a mountain to climb to be useful to the team this year.
Dunell: Doesn't really have a position at AFL level.
Roberton: Not sure? A touch unfit or maybe just not in form yet?
Stanley: Odd man out with Roo and Lee coming in, a lot of work still to do.
Steven: Obviously the man we could least afford to lose, very unfortunate.

Even though the Dogs game was in ridiculous conditions the other week, one thing was obvious to me and that is that clearance work is still our biggest worry, as it was last season- don't get hands on the ball enough. Steven will be missed around the ground, but in the middle is where we have to improve a lot. I can't see Ross being the answer- doesn't seem to read the play very well and is too slow, Hayes is on his last legs, Montagna still good- we need a strong fast in-and-under player in the midfield and the only player I can see on our list near that is Curren. Let's see how we go against GWS.

Right on the money Spurt and even when we did win possession it was rare that we cleared the congestion with any control! It is time for a lit more fresh talent through the middle - as you mentioned Hayes, Armitage & Ross wont be the answer. We need players who can keep their feet and clear the ball with some authority. Hopefully Dunstan and some of the other younger players get a lot more time in the middle in the near future!

I thought Bruce did pretty well, Crameri was quiet, though it was a terrible night for tall forwards.

Apparently Stanley has a quad niggle and RObo might have a niggle.

I dont know if Stanley is in our best 22 anyway. Robbo is in our best 6 so no worries there.
