What about the play-on advantage rule? Does anyone think it would be better if the ump didn't blow the whistle but just motioned with his hands "play on". If there is no advantage then he can blow the whistle and call it back otherwise everyone goes on their merry way without stopping when the whistle is blown.
If the purists want to know what the free kick was for then the ump can say what it was for in his microphone.
