I would think everyone highlights look good yet 60% of players drafted wont really have any impact at all.

No doubting that he is talented and whilst it sounds like there were probably better skilled players still around at our pick 18, there's no doubt that what attracted the club to Luke is his fantastic leadership. In a team that is so young, with so many first / second year players coming through, the importance of having a great leader cannot be underestimated and I think we've got it right here!

Lenny won't be around forever and we've obviously targeted someone with similar qualities. A tough uncompromising inside player who will be a general in the midfield for many years to come.

Fantastic to have you on board Luke, can't wait for the footy season!

I don't often post on saintsational but am on most days., I will say I'm super excited about Dunstan looking at his player profile clip. Like Lenny, his attack on the ball inspires those around him. He has leadership all over, if you were a young player he is the guy to get behind. Good with his hands too, he is going to compliment Longer and Steven well. Can't wait to see Dunstan play. Very Jordan Lewis like.

Very happy with Billings too, not as convinced about Acres but he has some great attributes. Most excited I've been since Goddard taking "that mark" in GF 1.

and that's the bottom line

Looks another impressive type. Hopefully a long term player and future leader at the Saints.

Tough. Excellent. I like this quote from Quigley's summary, "Dunstan is one of the best inside players in this draft..."
Just what we need. Let's hope he develops into a Lenny clone.

Old head on young shoulders as they used to say :D :D
Looks ready to play seniors straight away
Acres probably needs a few pre-seasons in his body but Dunstan already has a mans body and a mans head...

Having said that, Roo's knee has been bone on bone for 10 years!

Just feel this should be mentioned his hips are fine did not require screws etc was getting wear and tear

8-) Was playing 3 games of football " a weekend" hence the soreness

Watched his games in the Championships and think he is more of your " Simon Black" type myself

Thats the first thing that came in to my heard when I saw him play too...

Although it is funny - draftees are either 'pendlebury' ' bartel' or 'black' types.
Usually a 'black type' means you are slow.

Anyway - he looks mature of body, mind (and head) so i think he will be ready for sr footy sooner than the other lads. Not saying hell be better - but definitely saying he will be able to play sooner. Others need a few pre seasons youd think.

That's why they're called highlights tapes. I wonder how our perceptions would change if we got to see their "bloopers" tapes?

As i have said many times could you imagine Lenny highlights tapes. it would show a slow player who cant mark but tackles very well and can baulk a player. Would look like a VAFA player. What it wouldnt show is his brain for the game and his heart for a contest.

And what should we have looked for in a person like Lenny and his highlights. Until you see lowlights then most players have good highlights tapes.

Lenny highlights would of been strong Tackeler good in a contest and uses the ball. Not a blazer doesn't like to waste a possession.

You could tell with 1 highlight what kind of player Billings is the one where he gathered the ball in the pocket and centred it to his teammate..

Didn't want Hartung because watch his tape and it showed pace but not the smartest player had a bit of Tunnel Vision.

You can tell because there highlights are obviously things they do well you just have to decide weather or not they do those things well enough..

In the Francis Leach interview - The coach described Dunstan as quote:

"already got some real density about him"

absolute gold.

I would say Lenny must have had some very decent tapes because we wouldn't have had a full time NSW recruiter in those days and went Hayes over other players locally. He was a first rounder. He might not have shown the champion drive but you can tell lots from a players best footy condensed down.

From Wikipedia

In 1998, Hayes was a standout player for NSW/ACT in the representative TAC Cup, taking out the Morrish Medal as the best player in the competition.

Hayes won the morrish medal. Not like he was an unknown quantity.
