Most Basketballers don't make the grade. It would be good if we are lucky, but in the end its a stab in the dark.

It seems strange to me that Tommy Walsh is still on Sydney's list given all the forwards they have, and the very little progress he's appeared to make.

Clearly they haven't given up on him just yet?
One year left on his contract I think, so I guess there's no point delisting him if he still counts towards their magical celery hat.

Good on him for chasing the money, probably set himself up for life now.

Scott Pendlebury, Todd Goldstein & Dean Brogan were 3 gun junior basketballers that did.

I actually still believe Stanley could make a really really good Ruckman and this KPP experiment is but a fantasy holding him back.
We have already invested big $$ and a high pick for HIckey so I think Macca is definitely tradeable (as much as he seems like a terrific bloke and a leader).
By tradeable - i mean itd need to be something real good (top 10 pick or equivalent) . Id do Macca for Adams straight.

Is there any real reason we are getting this guy apart from a feel good story?

Might bring in a few memberships from younger supporters who like the US culture.

As regards to the confusion over his height, it was the other guy in the Age article who was 207cm if you actually read the sentence carefully, but not very clear.

I think they are a pretty much free commodity as a promo for the AFL. A bit like interstate rookies. 200cm plus athletes are a rare commodity. He only has to replicate jump balls at the centre bounces and take the odd grab and he's handy as a ruckman.

Its a punt but worthwhile IMO. I think that the ruck position is one of the few positions in AFL that a non-AFL athlete can adapt to easier. He is a basketballer so he can certainly jump, will be naturally agile and know how to use his body to protect the drop of the ball. Basketballers also have brilliant spacial awareness and very good hand eye co-ordination.
If he can learn to kick a ball he could be a very good propect

Blicavs says hi.

Throw enough mud at the wall and some it will stick.

Low probability, but no cost = why not?

I bought a shirt from Target once.
It had a hard tag on it too.

I know how Dal feels.

Geelong is seen as the benchmark when it come to recruitment and development yet Jason Holmes ruck stats for 2013 already match Hamish McIntosh and he probably has far more upside. 8-)

Sorry I didnt realise Blicavs was a 23 year old American. If it is no issue with cost then lets get 20 of them. If we are going to waste a coach teaching him he may as well teach a heap of them. Is there a limit? I notice the american guy playing at North this year didnt even get a run in the VFL first side.

Reckon there is a cost and Im unsure a side in our position can afford to do this but happy to be proven completely wrong.

But also a lot of the Australian kids would have had "some" exposure as kids.
For example Robert Harvey could easily have been described as a cricketer, but he'd have been a lot better footy player than Ian Botham.
( though Botham was good at that other game I call soccer ).

There are also a lot of Baketballers who DONT make the grade and for some reason I cant name them because no one has heard of them.

I'm very hopeful that this guy will work out well, but I'm not jumping up and down saying trade McEvoy now because look what we've got. ( I made the mistake of investing too much emotion into Tommy Walsh ).
