If the deliberate dog act of Betts wasn't bad enough, the disgrace that is Ray Chamberlain was positively breathtaking.
He was within 5 metres of the incident with a clear view and did absolutely nothing!
Until the Saints players ran at Dog Betts and remonstrated with him.
Then Razor Ray jumped into control.
What an unbelievable disgraceful performance.
He just stood and kept looking at the trainers trying to assist Wright off the ground. Didn't watch the play at all, just watched Wright staggering off the ground.

He's supposed to report players.
That's one of his roles on the field.
What did he think?
That Wright was faking it??????

I was livid
And everybody around me were feeling similarly.

Razor rat stood and watched it play out right in front of him.

No whistle.

Wright crumpled to the ground, stared at him, still no whistle.

Reported him in his mic as the play commenced.

Why does he report him yet no free and no 50?

have a look at the point of the shoulder of Betts.

Straight into the jaw of Wright after he jumped off the ground.

Should get at least 4 weeks.

Dog act from a weak as piss over rated hack.

Betts should get twice as long as Wright.
Razor should get life. Absolutely useless mongrel of an ump. Brings the afl into disrepute having someone as inept and disrespected as him representing them.

You really wanted the whistle to blow. They already had cost us one goal when they paid a free 50m out to Saad when Farren was running into an open goal with nobody near him.

roo was suspended in 2011 for incidental high bump because he couldnt get out of the way and couldnt tackle as the player didnt have ball, so this should be something.

This was a deliberate bump, probably incidental head contact but definately reckless. Medical report could see a high penalty.

It will depend on whether the conduct is deemed reckless or negligent.

1. Rough Conduct - reckless, high impact (concussion and/or broken jaw), high contact - 425 demerit points. Penalty will depend on record and/or early plea. Minimum of three weeks.
or
2. Rough Conduct - negligent, high impact, high contact - 325 points - minimum penalty 2 weeks.

My guess, is No. 2.

He could also be charged with "charging" but that brings the same penalties. Whether you leave the ground is now irrelevant. However, charging is really the Dermott Brereton/Mark Yeates rule from the 1989 GF i.e off the ball with the player not expecting contact.

There is no way that conduct was anything less than reckless.
His intention was clearly to bump the player.
So, to me, the conduct is either intentional or reckless.

Impact has to be high...Could be severe if the jaw is broken.

and contact is clearly high.

So it will be
reckless/intentional conduct (2/3)
high/severe impact (3/4)
high contact (2)

I did.

It was very odd.

Yes Farren was called to stop running into an open goal.

Just saw it for the first time on the highlights package.
Late, deliberate, high contact, high impact. Minimum of three surely. What a dog.

3 reduced to 2 I reckon.

At least it was in play… was late, but still close to some action… the brogan & kosi ones are worse because there is absolutely no reason to be making heavy contact 100 metres off the play.

betts feet were off the ground though and it finished wrights night… so is not on.

Unluss Wright's jaw starts at his temple, how can anyone say it was an "accidental head clash" that broke his jaw. Look at the point of the elbow and where it is a split second from hitting.

YES thank you!!!

live on tv they showed the betts wright incident from behind and you CLEARLY see the ump watching it!!

no 50 down field tho but reports the player in the mic??????
yet terry gives away a 50 for grabbing about 2cms or jumper .5 of a sec after the mark was taken for about .4 or a sec

and ray couldnt play on??
wtf is up with that?

cant play on form a free kick if the whistle is blown???????
god knows whats going on there :? :?

From the MRP...
MRP Eddie Betts can accept 3 matches for rough conduct on Nathan Wright, classified negligent, severe impact (broken jaw), high contact
Negligent conduct...What a wank!
He lined him up, FFS!

I reckon they look at the incident and say...that looks like 3 weeks...and then retrofit the right formula to get that outcome.

That is seriously 1-2 weeks shy of what it should be.
Reckless conduct = +1 week
Intentional conduct = +2 weeks.

I think it is exactly right. It was a head clash in many opinions so it was always going to negligent contact. Its exactly what i said he would get last night.

Actually thought the umpire got it correct in not stopping play.

We were away and it would only have been a downfield not a fifty, so it would have been whee the ball was anyway, and the Saints were away.

P66 if you are about, hang on to your chair, but I think the umpire played the advantage for the Saints, may have learnt from the other bad free kick call.

He didn't know how bad the injury was, he did see late contact, made a judgement call on the play (a good judgement call) and then noted into his mike what had happened.

I. unlike many dont think Chamberlain is a bad umpire, compared to that No.25 work experience tool, he is one of the best.

I know it is a still P66, but from the above shot, how do you get a broken jaw from a head hitting your temple, while the point of the elbow is directly on the jaw?
