Agreed - there is nil point of difference between him and McEvoy. We need a second mobile ruckman like a roughead or what Kosi was like 5 years ago. I reckon it would be a waste of a trade. What we need to focus on is a couple of big backs and some mid field depth I reckon.

He's walked for more money and he's not what we should be targeting. McEvoy and Stanley form a solid combo, and we should be getting as much time into those two as possible. If we're throwing money around it should be at highly skilled mids or KPPs.

Assuming we lose Goddard, I'd like us to use pick 13 to get Caddy, a third round pick or player swap to get Pederson or Delaney from North and take the pick of the state league ruckmen late in the draft. We could then take a young tall forward with pick 12 and pick up another young ruck in the rookie draft or cheaply through a trade.

Plenty of ideas being tossed about. Some sound great; some not so. Some may be doable; some not.

Whatever comes out of this period there will be fans that are happy and others who will say we stuffed up.

With no right or wrong answer possible on the subject of Drafting/Trading, I’m happy to let the blokes in charge do their thing. And, more importantly, support the list once the dusts settle.

Rose coloured glasses? Maybe. Realist? Definitely.

According to reports here in SA, he has been offered a very low contract.

Might not cost as much as you think to get him!

Big Mac might become a good ruckman
Yeah Yeah we know the story...he's only young blah blah blah.......

He'll always be the same ruckman....good at marking around the ground, not so good at winning a tap out...

I think the problem with Ben is he occasionally gets monstered by the likes of Natanui or Mumford. And the key to being a decent ruckman is not to be dominated.

I really think Stanley is the key in these situations. Getting another clone of McEvoy is not going to help.

yep, well said.

I liek McEvoy but Im not sure in the middle in heat of battle against a top, athletic ruckman.......hes ever gonna cut it. Sure hope to be wrong.

I'd be very happy with another McEvoy to play forward. It sure beats using Kosi or Wilkes as the second ruckman.

Why do people generally think a ruckman can simply go forward and kick a bag?

Apart from Brad Ottens, who has recently done it consistently?

Nobody.

Dean Cox stands out a bit and he has kicked less than 30 for the year. That is saying something.

It has a lot to do with the sub rule I think. Which is why Cox, Hale, Giles etc are so important as they can rest up fwd allowing better midfield rotations. I would take 30 goals any day from my resting ruckman.

More goals than Kosi, plus another 350 hitouts… that would be handy, plus he'd probably kick more goals in better side, playing more forward than ruck.

His name's a bit too posh for my liking. Having said that, if he can play footy I'll take him. We do need another ruckman. I think we were third bottom in the league for hitouts this year.

If by 'people' you mean me (since you quoted me) and by 'a ruckman' you mean Giles or McEvoy (since it's Giles thread and I mentioned Mac) and by 'kick a bag' you mean play the position, then I'd agree with that. Almost nobody is kicking bags. There are only two players averaging more than three goals a game. So expecting a bag out of a part time forward is ridiculous. If we got 1 per game each out of two splitting ruck-forwards we'd be way ahead on where we are now. An extra goal a game and we'd have had a home final this year.

West Coast got 50+ goals from their resting ruck spot. Nine players have more than fifty goals. Giles kicked 18 goals playing less than half of games up forward for a rubbish team that couldn't get the ball forward. You do the maths. It's all thoretical as far as McEvoy is concerned, but I'm guessing he can play forward. He played a lot there as a kid and he's an elite contested mark. He's a good long kick of the ball. If he's useless after the ball hits the deck then he's no worse than the guy who played deep forward for most of this year.

Will it happen? Probably not. I'd still be happy if we picked him up.

I did the 'ole double take when I saw that jumper. How dare that artifical plastic sporn of the Andy Devil joke of a team, rip off our jumper!!!

The Skunks kicked up a stink (get the pun? ) when Nought Adelaide first joined the competition, and made sure that they didn't use the maggotpie moniker nor jailbird jumper.

The Wogans should not be allowed to desecrate our sacred tricolour jumper! There will be more storming of embassies, well at least AFL HQ if this ever come to pass!!!

I am a bit confused as to why Tom Hickey is being talked about so much on this forum?
Is there any hint at all he would leave for Victoria and why would the Suns give him up?
He is a young developing player from Queensland and his dad was a Brisbane Bronco.
No way hes going anywhere. Have I missed something?
