Re: Roo's 3qrt time dummy spit and follow on affect
didnt see it well actually may have. The one where he couldve kicked yet tried to centre then it was cleared?? yeah its a hard one but IMO he should go for it. 50/50 shot with chance of one point. Where if you centre it, 50/50 with chance of quick opposition takeaway!
Only centre if under pressure basically... from what i saw he terry wasnt but centered becasuse of rooey ...
wrong.
all goods though theyll talk and theyll learn. TGHIS SEASON IS AWESOME. honestly tell me we DONT have a chance. we can win the flag. crow?? young. Eagles? injured and young. Experience will tell heaps this season. And we have it in buckets!. Pies only stand in our way (yet again)

True but if the small forwards then don't take shots and instead become too Roo-conscious because they're fearful of a spray from the 'skip it becomes a problem.kosifantutti wrote:I thought a pass to Riewoldt would have been a more difficult kick than a shot for goal. And that's not taking into account the chance of Riewoldt kicking a goal.
A bit of an over reaction from the captain but he's a passionate man and it's a passionate game.
This is why Lenny Hayes would be a better fit for captain.

This all seems ridiculous to me
I didn't see it but if Roo was the better option and free... then Terry should have passed.

Milney gave Saad a massive spray aswell during the 3rd quarter for taking a shot when he should have passed off. It's part of the game when players do something wrong.

I must say that I actually "noticed" Rooey's attitude last night on several occasions. Not sure that he was right either.

seems some of the comments in this thread show a bit of hate towards Roo because he is cap. when those posters want hayes....and it shows in their comments....
strange

Absolutely deserved K.SainterK wrote:If it's deserved...saint66au wrote:Fair dinkum..some people need to get over themselves..hes the captain..hes allowed to discipline players should he see fit
There were several occasions when the centred ball to an unmarked opponent was absolutely on but ignored. There were others when there was a free man in best position. On a night when we kicked a shiteload of points -especially against a side with a happy knack of charging hard and late - I reckon Roo was making an important point. Absolutely fair enough. He's the captain and the lynchpin at the attacking end. Get it right. Given our list we don't have time for young blokes to learn by mistakes.
This place beggars belief sometimes (not a ref to your post, K, rather those preceding) but for weeks there's been post after post bemoaning lack of discipline. When the captain does something about it people lob grenades at him!!
Staggering.
"The inches we need are everywhere around us. They're in every break in the game. Every minute, every second. On this team we fight for that inch. On this team we tear ourselves and everyone around us to pieces for that inch. We claw with our fingernails for that inch. Because we know when we add up all those inches that's gonna make the f***in' difference between winning and losing! Between living and dying!'
Re: Roo's 3qrt time dummy spit and follow on affect
As captain he has every right to give a player a serve. Should have dished it off for an easy goal. What if we were 3 points down and that happened??
We'd all be going crook at Terry.
Rule is, if your going to ignore your team mates...ensure you get the job done or you open yourself up for a serve. Not unhealthy, especially from the skipper.
This is a mans sport played by tough men. If a serve effects someone, they need to HTFU. Bet you Terry had no issue.

Re: Roo's 3qrt time dummy spit and follow on affect
The only thing that is staggering and laughable in this thread is the defence of our precious Roo. Heaven forbid he should be criticised!!?
The point made was he let fly at Milera for not centering the ball to him in a 50/50 contest just before 3/4 time, when Milera was 40 out on a 45 degree angle with a clear kick on goal. Absolutley was he within his rights to have a shot at goal,it was a much higher percentage play than kicking it to a contest at the top of the square. Maybe this is the Ross Lyon ethos still hanging around?
Then Roo as the captain has a genuine solo dummy spit at three quarter time in front of his team mates . Is this leadership? Of course he should be criticised for doing it. If Lenny done it then so he would be... If it was a selfish snap over the body from the boundary then absolutley give him a serve, but in this situation it was out of line, and Roo's judgement needs to be questioned on this one

Who was he dishing it off to for the easy goal for though? Terry was in the best position...that is the point here!!
Then in the final quarter I saw at least twice balls kicked too 40/60 contests, when the mosquito fleet would have normally had a shot, and 60% of the time, kicked them

Re: Roo's 3qrt time dummy spit and follow on affect
My main reason to start the thread wasn't to start a slinging match between the 'Roo lovers' v the 'Roo skepticals'....although I didn't think it was a great moment for him.
The point of it was the follow on affect after the spray, we saw balls centered to packs when a couple of them were within rights to kick the goal. Absolutley if someone is in better position,or it's a higher percentage kick to go for a leading forward, then that decision should be chosen. However I think we became too safe a couple of times. We were too safe going inside 50 under Lyon, probably cost us a flag. Geelong back themselves.
I am just worried that with Roo being the skipper and delivering what I,and many others thought to be unwarranted criticism to a young player ,with other young players watching on,what affect this will have on them when they are inside 50.
Look,I also feel a bit bad now for creating what looks to be a negative thread for what was a fantastic win and team performance. Was just highlighting an interesting moment of the game, and I would be intrigued too see the fall out at the game review tomorrow

Re: Roo's 3qrt time dummy spit and follow on affect
I have just watched it again and this sums itup perfectly. It would have been harder to pass it between all the swans players than kick the goal. I have to say roos reaction was a bit over the top, but not really a big deal.kosifantutti wrote:I thought a pass to Riewoldt would have been a more difficult kick than a shot for goal. When Milera is a 5 times B&F multiple All Australia and a St.Kilda captain and CHAMPION of the club, he will have the right to do what Riewoldt did last night.
What is wrong in DEMANDING a certain standard, and that includes Roo, considering we were so wasteful infront of goal last night.
Lance or James??

If Roo called for the ball and made a meal of it.... He should not escape a spray either. I see nothing wrong with demanding excellence from each and every individual.

Re: Roo's 3qrt time dummy spit and follow on affect
Milera missed and Roo judged that he was in a good position - vision showed he was covered. Probably a wrong call to give Milera a spray but he had his arm around him chatting at the start of the next quarter. They'll sort it in the review, I wouldn't be too worried about it. Roo has less impact on the game these days he is just trying to lead.
I've never seen a bad St.Kilda player - that's just how they are.
