We are in the market for a coach, so as a club we need to be as professional as possible.
Engaging in a slanging match would not be a good look, and may scare off potential candidates.
Agree Leo. I think that "most" of the Media and certainly the Saints fans have done enough to point out that Lyon's actiona were appallingly unprofessional and insensitive to the team.

....... It's now all about getting on with the job.

Also ..... It would be nice for the Club to let supporters know via their website, about the success of operations to Rooey and BJ. The many thouusands of potential Members have an interest.

given both are out and about again would seem to be ' run of the mill'

but not something that has happened in the past- bit like people finding out belatedly about Jakc riewoldts 4 surgeries.

no club likes to tell where the aches and pains were.
supposition on how many may have gone in-

similiar
he missed the Club meeting due to being in hospital- he recieved info via text message and spoke ( I think he said that) to Ross later that evening.

Ross gave them plenty and believed club needed strong coach- ( read it BJ doesn't suffer fools and works hard)

they did not ask if he was going anywhere.

Riewoldt regrets AFL's Saints let Lyon go
Sam Lienert, AAP
September 18, 2011, 2:16 pm
St Kilda captain Nick Riewoldt says he wishes the AFL club had acted earlier to secure Ross Lyon as coach for the long-term.

The Saints star said he was shocked by Lyon's defection to Fremantle, and initially struggled to take in the news, which he received directly from Lyon in hospital last week, having just emerged from knee surgery.

"He just said `I'm out, I'm going to Freo,'" Riewoldt told the Seven Network's AFL Game Day on Sunday.

"It was really weird, when you come out of an anaesthetic everything's not normal ... we spoke for probably 20 minutes and I can't remember a lot of the conversation and from then on, I was in and out of a bit of sleep.

"It was an emotional 20 minutes."

Riewoldt said the news came as a major disappointment.

He said while he understood both Lyon's and the Saint's perspectives, it was a shame the club had left the coach in a contractual position where he was free to walk.

"Certainly in hindsight, it would have been great if he had been locked away a little bit earlier," Riewoldt said.

"But from both sides, both parties, the football club and Ross, you can understand why certain things have happened.

"The bottom line is, from a playing perspective, we're all really disappointed that he's no longer our coach.

"But the majority of the boys have been in this situation before ... it's our job now to get on with the job."

Riewoldt said while Saints players had expected Lyon to be at the club next year, he had never directly told them that he would be.

Fellow Saints star Brendon Goddard also expressed his disappointment, saying Lyon was a quality coach and person and someone the club did not want to lose.

"It's quite disappointing it had to get to this stage.

"As you well may know, the negotiations started months back. It's sad it would get to this point," Goddard told the Nine Network's Sunday Footy Show.

Goddard said he wanted the next Saints coach to embody some of Lyon's characteristics.

"Someone that like Ross is very demanding and holds us to high standards," he said.

till the vision becomes available this is amore rounded re count of Nick's interview
http://www.afl.com.au/news/newsarticle/ ... fault.aspx
Despite his club coming under fire for not signing Lyon to a long-term contract earlier in the season, Riewoldt said he held no grudges about the way St Kilda handled the matter.

"Certainly in hindsight it would have been great if he had been locked away a little bit earlier, but from both parties I can understand why certain things have happened," he said.

Saints backman Brendon Goddard echoed Riewoldt's comments.

"I don't think I'm hurt [Lyon left], it's been said it's disappointing it had to get to this stage, the negotiations started months back so it's sad we had to get to this point," Goddard told Channel Nine's Sunday Footy Show.

"Ross had a decision to make based on his family, his kids and he made that decision.

Despite St Kilda being the last to begin its search for a senior coach behind Melbourne, the Western Bulldogs and Adelaide, Riewoldt said he was still confident about the future.

"From a playing perspective we're all really disappointed Ross is no longer our coach but the bottom line is we've got 40,000 members we represent and it's our job to get on with the job," Riewoldt said.

"Now there will be a panel to find the best available person and we've got faith in them to do that and from there it's about a big pre-season and putting in a good year for our members."

No question, but not of interest to most viewers except Saints fans. I would have liked to know what it was as well. I guess it was a "scrape" but that covers a multitude of sins. I wonder how much cartilage he actually has left in his left knee.
what ever it was it didn't take long? in at 5.30 and out when Ross got there at around 7.

BJ also had surgery Friday.
anyone else have surgery?

Nicholas W is just out this afternoon

maybe it's just one a day

BTW I find it same as same as that media are picking certain phrases and sentences to highlight in packages presented about BJ and Roo's comments
BJ says yes we'll miss him and when speaking of new coach- want someone with high standards BUT that said the core group are strong and determined yes development group assisted by Coaches etc.
Roo said the same- BUt the conveniently leave that bit off

Watch the video.. or read the AFL report- not the newspaper ones

Boy guys also use the word 'dissappointed' ..
