Whats epilepsy got to do with it.......never seen him have a fit on the ground....has no impact on him....

Except for the fact he can suffer siezures......many people live with epilepsy.

At least you got the bit right about many people living with epilepsy.

Be very careful talking about something you obviously no little about - although that has never stopped you before. Do you think by any slight chance Raph maybe taking some medication to control his epilepsy - have you ever heard of side effects from taking some medication.

i had two friends who hated their epilepsy medication, it slowed them down mentally, made them feel wooly, drowsy in the head and body and put on weight.

One lady chose to wear the fits rather than live with the medication.

this is 10 years ago and I'm sure medication is more sophisticated now.

i think he's on sodium valporate (Epilim)

most significant side effects = weight gain, hair loss... not so much sedation but by the same token it's also used for Bipolar Effective disorder so maybe some sedating effects

double as a mood stabilser hense the use with bipolar and a few other mental impairments.

I'm not aware that he was on that particular medication. He doesn't seem to be getting the hair loss side effect.

It is indeed - not only only prescribed for people with epilespy - but also for people as a mood stabiliser as stated above. Commonly taken by people who have Manic Depression and sometimes as an alternative to drugs such as lithium.

But Raph's judgement could be impared slightly from the anti-epilepsy medication he is taking, so that was also an interesting point you raised.

A valid point, Dan.

Unless he openly talks about it, it can be something to discuss.

But yeah, best not to assume (and speculate) about somebody taking a certain type of medication.

talking about it isn't a problem imo, but ascribing medication as applicable as if it were true is not.

I think generic discussion on the issue is fine, but that could just be me being a dick <shrug>

Ill just ask my wife.......no very few side effects from SV which is a mild mood stabiliser, depending on dosage...

Tell that to my sister who had her first seizure at 30 and has been having them once a week for the last 5 years, I think she finds it pretty debilitating despite only being diagnosed at 30

There are many causes for epilepsy (as you must know)
For some, its a cruelling disease.....others not so bad....and its treatable to in many cases to anpoint

Could you sister be an elite athlete given her condition???

and lastly you don't know either.

He may be having one every two seconds or never had a second but either way it is a hurdle that he has to live with most probably for the rest of his life. It may be a large hurdle or it may be a bump. But a hurdle nether the less.

I dont think it has had any effect on his footy....and his footy pre and post initial siezure is basically the same....thats my opinion
