They thrashed us the only other time weve played them there IIRC
we won there last year
and at the SCG the year before.

Next week, if we beat adelaide (virtual gaurantee) AND Melbourne lose (they've got a tough one so highly likely), AND Bulldogs beat sydney at SCG (unlikely but stranger things have happened), we'll be in 8th spot at the end of next round.

No virtual garauntees this season Im afraid..I reckon Richmond thought they were to beat Gold Coast

Weve got to win enough games to get there on our own merits..and that means knocking over teasms that we may meet in the 1st week if we make it ie Freo and Sydney

Events conspired to hand us 4th spot in 2008 (albeit sealed after a thrashing of Essendon), only to be summarily thrashed by the 2 sides above us that we met.

Having said that, Id rather not finish out of the 8 on percentage, then have the usual bleating no-nothings scream "See look if we'd played more attacking football and scored more and won by more we'd have made the finals"

Ahem!

I also can't believe Melbourne are above us, as, in most senses and even going forward, we are a better team than them.

But for you to question Riewoldt and his endevour simply suggests you don't watch football.

Or are blind.

I reckon yesterday he might have set a 1%er record.

I just hope we can win enough games so we don't have to rely on someone else losing in the last round to make it.

IMO I reckon we can finish at least 7th. Once we make the finals it will be a whole new ball game. There will then be a few worried teams playing against us (the September Specialists :) ) although I hope we don't play Essendoom.

All things being equal we will lose to Collingwood and beat the Crows and Suns.

That leaves 4 50/50 games..... Freo, Swans, North and Carlton. Take only 1 of these and we will miss the 8. Win 2 we probably scrape in. 3 we finish possibly 6/7th, win them all and we'll be 6th, maybe even 5th if WCE have a losing record from here on in.

Amazing isn't it.

One point loss to Cats, draw to Richmond, four (?) point loss to Carlton.

We find one goal across three games and we are gaining momentum, finding form at the right time and vying for third.

Cruel old business.

good call
i forgot about the other two games
win two of those and its another six points to our current tally and we are 6th above freo on percentage

oh well...whats done is done
now we just have to win as much as we can
id be happy if we only lost the pies game out of whats left
lose another one (blues or swans) and its tougher, lose 3 and its all over imo

That's the great thing spert... we're playing good footy (albeit it for 2.5 quarters) & our best player is still struggling to impose himself on a game.

If we get to September & Roo can really get cracking St Kilda becomes a real threat to do some serious damage. We currently have a number of lesser lights/much maligned playing very good footy. With the better players bar Roo also coming into form it's very encouraging.

Something about hitting form late, and peaking towards the END of a season is somewhat appealing to me though Thinline.

Last few years it's felt the opposite.

That's why I think the season has a 2007 feel to it...we were good enough to beat anyone at the end of that season, but results went against us and we narrowly missed out on a finals berth. A whole stack of also-rans made it, the Saints were twice the team, it was a real shame.

Given we narrowly lost to Carlton when they were on fire, and we were at an almost season low, you'd think anyone from the Blues downwards are merely getting in our way - excluding our hoo-doo team, Essendon. We just have to keep winning and let the other results take care of themselves.

After the last three GFs, I consider Hayes, Goddard and Fisher our best players, Goddard is coming good, and Fisher is as good as ever, but Roo needs to start making a statement to back up his reputation. Milne is currently our best forward which is a worry when the CHF and FF positions have contributed very little this season, hence our poor position on the ladder. No room for slackers from now on.

They're actually really battling at the SCG this year. Beat Essendon and ran Collingwood very close at ANZ.

We've played them twice at the venue. Lost by 17 in 2007 and won by 8 last year.

Just did a ladder predictor and had us 8th by a game even with loses to Collingwood, Sydney and Carlton. A win against Sydney or Carlton would push us up to 6th. I had Freo dropping out of the 8 down to 12th without winning a game. They really have a tough run home.

Surely you're not implying you'd rather be where we are now then where we were in the past 2 years with a top 4 spot locked up at this stage.

I don't care how much 'form' we are finding...

Do you work for a Melbourne newspaper Sam23?

That's the kind of conclusion they'd jump to.

Sure, that's ideal...of course you want the double chance....but just pointing out that IMO, the players were stuffed by the time the big one came around.

Not as physically spent, no pressure of expectation...

Just trying to find the silver lining, if there is one :)

I'd fix that then...Freo will win at least half of their remaining games.

i've done that the last few rounds too, but there are that many 50/50 games for the teams at ladder positions 6 to 12 that you can'r reliably do it. i think we need to aim for 12.5 wins and we should be fine, 11.5 will be very close.

windley at the hun has us winning 6 of the last 7 (obv losing to the filth) and finishing 6th. just a bit too ambitious i think - unlikely that we will beat all of sydney, freo and carlton...
