No point putting any in at Seaford.
The only customers would be the playing group.

We need to put in as many poker machines as possible at Seaford. We need the revenue. If we don't, others will.

Collingwood made about 20 million from pokies last year. Cardlton made about 15 million. We made about 2.8 million. If you want to compete with football spending at other clubs and, in particular, get a stand alone VFL team, then the fact is we need them for our finances.

So are these "as many poker machines as possible at Seaford" going to be located in the gym or the chill out room?

Or should we bring in a few portables to house them?

I haven't been to the new facility so I couldn't tell you. However, if we built a new facility and didn't allow for poker machines then we are brain dead.

i remember originally that the new home base was to be built i moorabbin on south road rather than linton street. there was some kerfuffle about poker machines and it fell over and they just packed up and left for seaford. i think the council wanted to reduce the number of machines and the saints administration didn't want a bar of that. it seems the old moorabbin facility is still there for the pokies and merchandise shop - it's a bit of a graveyard.

this has a bit of info: http://www.austadiums.com/news/news.php?id=314
The Moorabbin redevelopment was always dependent on City of Kingston approving the transfer of the club's 83 poker machines about 200m from Linton St to busy South Rd.

In a meeting on Monday night, the council refused to endorse the pokies transfer, instead referring the matter to the Victorian Commission for Gaming Regulation, a procedural requirement St Kilda will not pursue.

The council resoundingly voted to "strongly support a reduction in the number of gaming machines".

Had the transfer been approved, St Kilda would have paid the council $2.1 million for land on South Rd, which would have been used for a new $6 million social club base and as security to ensure the $10.5 million redevelopment proceeded.

What happened was the club was seeking a memorandum from the council that when they put there application in to VCAT to move the 80 pokie machines that they would not seek to reduce the number when they did so (this was after the Club voluntarialy reduced their number from 90 odd to 80, less than 12 months before to support the council reduce pokies policy).

Because the club couldn't be guarenteed by the council that wouldn't try to reduce their number pokies upon the move their financing didn't stack up so they had to look else where to redevelop.

Also keep in mind this would have required the council to give the saints the new land in return for ending their saints lease on other parts of the staadium (ie the old car park that is all trees now, which is still technically saints property). It was a very complicated situation with leases land deals and pokies, but basicly boiled down to the council not guareenteeing they wouldn't put in a application to reduce the pokies when the saints went to vcat for their relocation.

and as for talking about carlton and collingwood and their pokie revenue Carlton was GIVEN additional pokies by Bruce Matheson and Collingwood brought pokie venues neither actually got new pokies licenses which is nigh impossible now days, so I suggest Helen/Nexus/StNick if you are serious to go do some research.

Overall if it went ahead the saints would have been better off than they are now imo, still at Morrabbin, with a bigger asset and possibly better facilities, but a little more debt (but off set by a greater pokies income).

and over 300 machines at that with ALL profit going to the Blues and most taken from leases that the Bulldogs and North had gained revenue from..

What new revenue streams can we expect to create, then? The are only so many options available. I read today's Age and it was mentioned that an AFL administrator (Andrew Catterall) had been meeting with St Kilda and The Bulldogs over concerns regarding finances.

If we are to believe that article, then we're struggling. We already have pokies, don't we? So why not some more and we'll get our stand alone VFL team. It's pretty clear to me that we'll benefit significantly from it. Our player development under Sandringham and Casey has been pretty poor.

the government/ councils/ etc etc are NOT going to allow more pokies ANYWHERE it's how some governments got into power..

so only option would be to take over a club/ hotel etc that has some already and then get permission to hold the licence.

but to do that we need finances ....
the current( and most recent) boards have worked hard to get the club
a) OUT OF DEBT
b) into a strong position on field with the football/ medical / etc departments to keep us there
c) now it needs our support as much as anything to ensure they have the support to make that sustainable. and by our support I mean with memberhsip- chich the AFL use as one of their criteria for viability. and the cash that sustained and growing membership provides.
membership also provides possible sponsors with markets which again assists to maintain and then grow the club.

They are a cancer. The odd go is ok, but the problem is many can't have just a 'small go'.
As a kid I sold papers outside a TAB. That was exactly how I felt then.
