I guess he's as far away from full forward as Barry Hall was for us, when he was tried at full back, or how far Gehrig was away from full forward, in the year he played at full back. Those moves to FF turned out OK.
And as a matter of interest, after those first couple of games Gehrig played at full forward, at the end of whatever year it was (when he'd played full back till then), I predicted that if played there permanently he could kick 100+ goals in a season and that proved to be the case. I see the same (although no where near as much at this stage) potential in Tommy.

It was a joke. Dont take things to seriously. I wouldnt have even a slight clue if Walsh will make it as a FF or a FB or anywhere. Unlike some here I dont say what preditions I get right. Maybe because I dont get any right even though it would be easy to say in hindsight I did say Lovett would get charged with rape before we drafted him. I also predicted at the start of last season that if we happen the draw the first GF that we are no good in replays.
But needs to be elevated.
Just waiting for someone like Kosi to go on the long term injury list.

that's a weird call.
the main problem with many of our tall forwards - roo at times, gilbert in the second gf, both johnson and archer on friday night - is that they're not good goal-kickers. it's the second most important skill for a tall forward.
yet tommy has only been kicking an oval ball for 12 months. what has he shown to suggest that he can actually convert reliably in the forward line?
For me the most heartening thing about his performance on friday night was that I'm now convinced he's gonna make the grade... it's only a question of how far he'll go now.

Given he's an athlete with the capacity to switch codes the sky's the limit.
I've never seen a bad St.Kilda player - that's just how they are.
There is a real chance that he could push for a round 1 spot at full back. Especially if the pod is out for geelong and they only have hawkins and ottens down there. Zac's suspension will mean he is 50/50 at his best for round 1.

Jarryd Allen was placed on the LTI list to make Dawson's elevation possible. A fit list may mean Walsh has to wait for his opportunity.

i think so, but that's round 10 or 11 or 12 or something. those pumping up walsh for round one will have to hope for a long-term injury - and i'd rather we weren't hoping for that.

It's a good question.
I was pleasantly suprised by his disposal by foot on Friday night, that said I didnt have high expectations.
I understand that he is used to kicking a round ball, but he was a forward in Gaelic, so who knows??
Life is very short and there's no time for fussing and fighting my friends.

I've heard pretty good reports about his kicking (especially how long he kicks it) and it looked OK the other night. It might not be smooth and textbook, but Barry Hall, who he reminds me of so much physically, doesn't have the prettiest kicking technique, yet it's still effective. As was Gehrig's, which was simple, but effective.
So much with regards to goalkicking is above the shoulders, so if he's able to get on top of that, he's a lot of the way there. He's probably been kicking goals all his life, with a round ball, so he may just need to get used to kicking an oval one.
