Good sign to him that the Club is serious about him....and that his efforts have been noted.

Hopefully will encourage if to take the next step up...and to ease any possible homesickness.

The more I think about it the more it looks like tokenism, an attempt to ensure that Tommy knows he's wanted and doesn't return to Ireland. I trust the club's management has made the right decision.

Why else would they do it, unless they thought he'd play in the finals?

Clubs aren't in the habit of promoting guys and spending money without any reason.

Could be for quite a few reasons.

1. The pay might not be alot higher, if at all.

2. Reward for effort.

3. List management problems.
ie. i) They have their eyes on some rookies and need room on the rookie list.

4. Provide pressure on current players.

5. Act as security for the finals in case of emergency.

6. OR try and quell his homesickness with some incentive.

I think with the trip home during the break that this would be a good way of him being able to show his family what he's been able to achieve in his first 12 months.

Also a great way of making sure he doesn't hit the p!ss too hard while he's at home.

Keeps him keen to come back and have a BIG year!
Plus he might encourage his younger brother to come over to the saints

He goes straight back on the Rookie list automatically at the end of the year, we have to promote him via a draft pick.

With Tommy Walsh, Tom Simpkin, now Senior players, a years development behind Nicholas Winmar, and a fit (I hope) Raph Clark, our 2011 list is looking stronger already.

Yes my initial thoughts were similar.....

...however driving home thinking about it I think if I have remembered accurately that for any rookies to be able to play finals that they have to be promoted by this week (ie end of H&A).

If I have recalled correctly it may also just be the club being very thorough just in case there was a rash of injuries to the talls, that they have all possible options of back-ups available.

So being elevated means he is available....in a worse case scenario.

ie say Zac hands flares, Blake does a hammy and Fishers gets suspended... (touch wood).

That would make sense, wasn't aware of the rule, thanks for that :)

Yes would be great to get him over at a younger age.

Shouldnt you have a  after that.
You might think it is funny, but those two ultimately won't ... unless they produce.
Tommy isnt replacing them or anyone else in the finals this year unless we have the worst injuries ever.
I know that, but long-term he is a threat to any key position player who is not playing well. A poor finals series by either will open the door for Tommy.

you reading this roo.....?   8-) 8-)

I spoke to the guy I see up at the local who is a mate of Tommy's.

I don't apologise for fanning the rumours... He has heard the news too. He swears Tommy was considering a return home.

I expect this is a show of faith by the club... I expect a permanent elevation will come in the draft.

Walsh, who joined AFL outfit St Kilda’s last season, is set to return to Tralee in September and club bosses are hopeful he can boost their title hopes – provided they are still in the race after next weekend’s clash with St Brendan’s.

Manager Mark Fitzgerald said: "Tommy cannot come back until the middle of September at the earliest.
Wishful thinking from the manager of Tralee.

Yeah good on him.

He should be a player in 2011.
