Can we just not play the preseason comp?
How does that eliminate injuries though?

I think you will have to tie down some of our stars if you want them to sit it out, they will be bursting with restless energy, why not allow them to start with a bang?

Of course rest anyone with niggles, but apart from that, let them play if they want to.
just rest em till the GF maybe....
Now, there's a plan

I hope I can get a seat too

I think in the era where our only chance of a Premiership or money was to win the NAB Cup, then we went for it and won a couple or three.

Player maintenance is important and with the long season in 2009, we need to give the core of our senior list the right preparation otherwise we will be another Hawthorn post GF year. The NAB Cup is good for increasing memberships so bottom clubs will play it hard to get numbers.

Bit of a bugger because I do own a match ball from the 2004 Wizard Cup Win signed by the team and coach so I want it to be worth more but it really is a practice series at this point of St Kilda's journey to the next premiership.

But I DO own a premiership ball. So I am proud of that :D

Given their record last year, I think the staff we (as members) partially pay to employ have got a pretty good idea about player management.

They'll know who to rest & who to play. The NAB Cup however means NUFFFFING in the scheme of things though. Possibly playing on better grounds is a reason to continue on to the next round but otherwise it's not really important.

I once spent a year in Adelaide, I think it was on a Sunday.

I would still like to beat Collingwood first up. Yes it is nice to see them get their hopes up and start strutting around thinking their going to win before the real reality becomes obvious.
However, it's even better watching their supporters implode, I can just hear it now if they get beaten badly, there will those who will be demanding Malthouse step aside now for Buckley.
I'm sure Matrix would love to get a big box of Popcorn and watch that.

Id like to see the young players in action too see what they will offer and if any big star is fit to play then why hold them back?

We won the comp in 08 with a mix of both but as long as we have no injuries and we see the future stars on display the outcome doesnt mean much

Sure play the kids, but none of this wrapping up the stars in cotton wool business.

Anyway, try and keep them off the park. They would be burning to play again, so much built up frustration to unload, and why can't it be Collingwood that cops the wrath?

I guess it's one of those things where if we get knocked out straight away, we will say, "No big deal, at least the guys can prepare for the big one."

But if we make the GF, we will play to win and take it seriously given the prize money.

NAB round 1 - No one man up on Luke Ball as a statement on how we rate him.

I've never seen a bad St.Kilda player - that's just how they are.

what do I want from the NAB cup?

I want us to play a fairly young team + players needing fitness and to still win it w/o any injuries

Just attack it like we have the last couple of years.

It is a build up to the season proper and keep that in mind.

That said we did win it two years ago, so that'd be nice too but the end of the world if we don't.

Friday the 19th...5 weeks today.

With the intraclub on Friday the 12th

Don't think I will be able to make it to the intraclub due to work committments, but will be doing everything in my power to get to the first NAB cup game.
And have almost finalized plans for the family to go up to Sydney for Round one..turning it into a bit of a holiday.

There are now 10 Free to Air TV channels.

Makes the NAB crap less important.

(Not that there is much decent stuff on the secondary channels!!!).

P.S. I reckon Lovett is fine and won't be sacked.

Or has he been sacked already?

I haven't been on here for a fortnight so have no idea.....

I'll be sitting. And Tommy Walsh will carry whoever lines up for us to the NAB Cup premiership, so I just hope they get the other main 18 or so ready for the main season. If they're ready to go in the NAB cup, to help Tommy, so be it, if not, I look forward to seeing the likes of Lynch, Stanley Heyne, Steven, etc. kick it to Tommy. Peace.
