Still a stat that means something. I think it's basically saying .... sides that go on to win flags are playing a really good brand off footy in the lead up to the finals. It still concerns me that we looked so very ordinary today. BUT ... I hope this stat means nothing when we beat Bulldogs soundly in 2 weeks.

There are two "record" statistics:

1. No side has won 19 in a row and not won the premiership.

2. No side has lost 2 of their last 3 during the home and away season and won the premiership.

One of these is going to be broken in the next 5 weeks, so history can't tell us everything ...

Oh, well... better not let the players know. They might just realise that it's all been a big waste this year... and we'd better start getting ready for next year.

There are only two football stats I go by. Neihter related to ladder position.

75% of teams who are in front at half time, win the game.

97% of teams who reach 100 points first, win the game.

If you dont bring it on game day you will never win.

Or in the last 10 years not many sides have had top spot sewn up and have had nothing to play for....

That's strange isn't it.

Pant crappingly strange.

The problem with using stats is that they are open to interpretation. It depends on how you use them and what information you used. For example, did you take into account that we won the first 19 games? Did the other teams win 19 games straight? Were these other teams minor premiers? As your add or require more detailed information from the stats, results tend to change.

Actually, 1 team has done it twice.

Essendon in 1897 and 1924

Unlike so many I was actually at the game and none of those statistics played any part.

The only statistics that played any part are:
1. The team that kicks more inaccurately for goal is more likely to lose.
2. Weather effects results - teams that depend on marking forwards for a significant amount of their goals are more likely to lose in wet and windy conditions than in the dry.

Yes, in both years they played a round robin to decide the premier.
so I should have said when there has been a grand final then .............................
