He's showing the same sort of promise that Barry Brooks did initially. I just hope he has a much, much longer and way better AFL career.

I've been really impressed with him and a little surprised with the speed of his development. You can also see that he has a reasonably solid build on him already and he will further develop physically into quite an imposing presence.
We may have lost out on Barry Brooks, our other first round pick ruckman but this kid is going to make up for it. :)

McEvoy's contested work and marking is better that what Brooks showed before he did his knee. Brooks had plenty of chances after he recovered from his knee reco but his attitude and willingness to work hard was pretty average. A problem Thomas would publically comment on. Big Mac so far has shown a much stronger mental attitude in his play than Brooks ever did.

Big Mac is taking contested marks, smothering , tackling, using the ball well.

I must have nodded off to sleep when BB did any of that ever.

I don't believe I said Barry was without his shortcomings, but he had a heap of ability, which is why he was initially drafted in the first round (2001 National Draft) and why we then traded pics 7 and 31 for him the following year. He clearly had a "down side" but he had a heap of an "up-side", until he did his knee.

Most definitely.

He is a much better player now that his first game this year.

Will be great to see how he goes in 2010 after another pre-season when he will be that bit stronger.

BB had too much time on his back-side.

Goldstein stars for Kangaroos

ASHLEY BROWNE

NORTH MELBOURNE ruckman Todd Goldstein enjoyed the best outing of his 10-game AFL career against Melbourne at Etihad Stadium on Sunday.

The 21-year-old, currently the only Jewish player on an AFL list and just the 10th to play the top level, booted five goals in his side’s 62-point win over the battling Demons.Goldstein had 17 possessions, took seven marks and enjoyed 17 hit-outs in what it is hoped will become his breakout performance.

For those who play fantasy football, Goldstein also racked up a handy 121 Dreamteam points.

Goldstein was drafted by the Kangaroos in late 2006 from the Oakleigh Chargers. He attended Trinity Grammar in Melbourne and is a relatively late convert to Australian football, having played basketball while growing up.

He is involved in a tight competition to become the starting ruckman at North Melbourne, alongside Hamish McIntosh, Drew Petrie and David Hale.

AFLPA suggest
McEvoy, O'Dwyer, Steven & Goldstein are the popular picks. Reckon its a battle between the big guys McEvoy & Goldstein... #afl
