yeah, that's what i object to. there's no way to protect yourself with both arms pinned.

plus the fact that they would have been told "get goddard if you can."

I hope our players are saying the same thing about out oponents every week.

i reckon you should always play hard and fair ... unless you're given a reason not to.

yep - great tackle - would you prefer they leave one arm free?

how about we ban the smother after brown's broken legs? or going in head first to stop head clashes? etc etc!

Takes courage to fly in front of a swinging leg to smother.

Takes courage to charge head first into a contest.

Takes NO courage to pin an opponent and bury his head into the turf.

it is very dangerous to pile-drive a guy's head into the concrete without him having an arm free to break his fall. this is why spear tackles are outlawed in rugby. someone will end up in a wheelchair.

a dog act ... or, at the very best, reckless. i hope our guys file it away and someone gives him a nice clean hip and shoulder next time.

No way was that a spear tackle! Re rugby...

"The IRB Ruling on Law 10 from 2006 States:
The act of lifting an opponent off his feet in a tackle AND dropping or "spearing" that player so that his head and/or upper body comes into contact with the ground first, is a dangerous tackle."

he was hammered head first into the ground with both arms pinned ... i can see a parallel.

Watch the reply. I think you'll see a "dropping or "spearing" that player so that his head and/or upper body comes into contact with the ground first"

Hence "a dangerous tackle."

when i watched a reply again i actually thought he knew the ball was free....but thats beside the point.

i mean what do u do??
change rules?...
i think its what it was, in the grey area that makes our game so unique.
unique like how u can forearm someone in the side of the head behind play and get a week and then someone can run into a player behind play and get 4 weeks, because the bloke wasnt expecting it

unique sport........lol

Do not need any rule change. Just enforce 'Unduly rough play'.

Still cannot believe what the MRP was on when thay said Simpson did not see that Goddard had released the ball when the replay clearly shows him looking at the ball spilling free and THEN driving BJ into the turf head first.

Puzzling.

Probably a bit reckless, the kind of play that can end up being a free and 50m, or just play on... one set up supporters probably feels screwed, and if the umps are really having a good day, they just pay a free, and both sets of supporters feel screwed :)

Would have been very hard done by to be suspended for it. ended up being a late sling in the back... but a spear tackle that was definitely not.
