agree that milney is a gun forward and is a key part of our forward line, but he's not a gun key forward.

nor is kosi a key forward. he's a good second ruck who is quite a handy goal-kicker.

look i love milney. i reckon hes great. 331 career goals says it all. i also reckon hes improved his all round game in the past 2 years. he can now play mid-field or forward and his defensive game has improved heaps.

just looked at the stats -pretty interesting. if u add buddy's goals and the slight hawks advantage below for 2008 - you pretty much get the difference between 1st and 4th - around 20%. So there is no doubt we need more goals. About 20% more goals from our forwards.

our guys compare pretty favorably on career average terms although the hawks are younger . strangely enough koszi and roughhead are both on 133 goals. of all the players below milney is the only guy averaging 2 goals per game.

games career goals 2008 goals
mark williams 181 299 46
cyril riolo 25 24 24
jarryd roughhead 83 133 75
Total 2008 155

stephen milne 165 331 60
Justin Koschitzke 123 133 30
adam schneider 117 127 28
Total 2008 118

Agree Con, I think an output of about 40-45 from Schneids and Kosi should be acceptable and hopefully a gem of an extra 25-40 from someone coming through.

Schneider will have settled in much better in 09, and I think Kosi just wasn't there this year.

I'd leave Milney alone to do whatever he wants to do, fantastic stats for the little bloke.

I was really surprised actually by how many games Williams has played, I didn't think he'd been around that long.

Actually the Hawks Mark Williams has played 98 games for 226 goals. A very good average.

I thought I had prematurely aged by about 6 years, making me eligible for APIA....

And that total of their goals this year from the 3 named was 145, not 155, closing our gap on them already.

Therefore, add the following to the very top of the list:
- Dal Santo
- Ball
- Hayes
- Montagna

At least one of them MUST go to the next level, or we keep pissing into the wind.
I'm sorry I couldn't let this go. Lenny needs to step up?
I'll give you the other 3 must become the champions they have only hinted at for us to have a chance next year but Lenny Hayes needs to go to the next level?
Lenny is the next freakin level!

How can young blokes who have not been at the club for a whole week be "at the crossroads"? Ditto for Steven, Ray, Geary or Eddy. They haven't had much of a chance to establish themselves yet.

I'll give you the others ...

Bozza 1980 I think Clinton Young in H'thorn's midfield is the player they have to kick the big goals when they really need them. I remember that goal he kicked in the 08 GF from outside 50 metres before he went off injured and I saw him do it (similar goals) when watching a few H'thorn games during the season. He doesn't kick heaps of them but he does kick the big ones when he goes forward.

saintsRrising, statistically and just on observing his performance ... Luke Ball in 2008 before his hamstring was very close to his best.

Had the 2nd best year of his career IMO behind 2005, and certainly *fingers crossed* seems to be over his groin problems to a large extent.

He's looked extremely fit at training and if he can continue last year's form then will be a big factor in our success IMO
