No it didn't.

It was proposed in the mid-80's but knocked on the head.

Just like a two time proposal (mid 60's & early 90's) to change our name to Moorabbin Saints.

I've come across a social club pin of the era that said 'Southern Saints Social Club', but little else...

I think they recorderd a version of the song by Doug Parkinson?
Was that the '...and we're loyal to our mates, 'cos we're the Saints' anthem that was heard around Waverly in the early-mid 1990s?
yeah - "we hit em when thet're hot, we hit em when they're not"..

I believe there was also something to the tune of Stout Hearted Men an old Nelson Eddy song from a musical about Mounties in Canada, which is why i suggested Robert Eddy should be known as Nelson.

I reckon the club should get a real jazz ensemble together and record a new Bradyless rendition of the song.
Brady's versions sound a little too Benny Hill for my liking.

Oh when the Saints etc.
i liked that one!

i believe it was used when we had the SOS campaign.
I recall being invited to a night at the Social Club where they unveiled that song with a film clip featuring Paul Morwood who had just won the B&F and the new President was proposing we adopt teh marketing name of Southern Saints, similar to Footscray had started marketing themselves as the team from the Western Suburbs.

We had just signed a 'high profile recruit' Brad Gotch .
I believe it was early 1987 as one of our businesses which had the name 'Southern' in it was being 'wooed' as a major sponsor for the Club due to the 'Southern' connection.
